Description
Hope Thatch is the oldest house in the delightful South Devon village of Malborough. Dating back to 1650, it is Grade II listed and provides cosy and very comfortable holiday accommodation for 5 guests in a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a single bedroom.. It's sympathetic refurbishment has ensured that it's original character has been preserved and the cottage still boasts a wealth of original features including a slate fireplace (now with log-burning stove) and exposed beams. Furthermore in 2014 it has had an architecturally designed extension to house a new kitchen (with Aga Rayburn and American-style fridge freezer) with bi-fold doors opening an entire glass wall onto the garden, new downstairs/cloaks and new family bathroom - underfloor heating and solid French oak furniture. . We have owned the cottage for around 20 years and are constantly seeking to not just maintain but improve it. We achieved listed building consent to widen our gates to create private parking. 2020 saw us re-thatch the cottage, and to date in 2021 we have revamped the garden to add a terrace for our guests to dine and soak up the sun, and reconfigured and refurbished the entire 1st floor (previously Bed 1 was accessed via Bed 3, such are the quirks of an 18th century thatch!) to include new furniture, carpets, bedding etc.
We are aware many of you visit to enjoy the many activities that the South Hams has to offer so we have now added a cycle rack for the use of our guests.
For those of you more into your tech then you'll be happy to know that the South Hams is out of the dark ages and that superfast broadband is now up and running in the cottage, making downloading and streaming an instant reality.
The picturesque village of Malborough is a delightful place to stay with its pretty cottages that line the street. It has two pubs, a bistro, a church and a couple of shops all within walking distance of the cottage .Located between Salcombe and the pretty village of Hope Cove, this is the perfect base from which to explore the beautiful South Devon Coastline and South Hams area.
Perfect for families, it caters for babies (cot,highchair, stairgate etc), younger children (private enclosed garden) and teenages (wifi internet, Sky 3D Smart TV, Blueray DVD with cinema surround-sound,Xbox Kinect & XBox Netflix Subscription, iPod dock). Great for adults (fine dining restaurants, romantic log fire). Enjoy a relaxing vacation of walks (South West Coast Path and Dartmoor) and sandy beaches, or have an activity holiday (sailing, powerboats, kayaking, golf, SCUBA diving, fishing, hiking etc). Year round attractions and events make winter getaways as popular as summer sun.

Response from the owner We're so glad that you enjoyed it, only sorry that you didn't contact us whilst you were there as there are 7 set of glasses but not all are left out (there should have been enough out for the number of guests!), I could've got the caretaker to get some out for you.
