The name of our house is confusing as it implies it was the home of the village school teacher. As far as we know it never was. It was built in 1844 as a Wesleyan Chapel. The design is typical of early Norfolk non conformist chapel architecture. In 1851 there was a religious census made (the only time this has ever happened). It records that an average of 70 people attended services at this chapel and records that on Sunday 30th March 1851 52 people attended the morning service and 46 in the afternoon including 12 Sunday scholars. In the 1880s the congregation became more numerous and affluent and then built the more traditionally designed Chapel which still stands next door.

This building was used was then used as a Sunday school and chapel rooms. Older residents of the village remember going to the Chapel services and the Sunday school and have happy memories of the Sunday school outings to Hunstanton. (The really canny ones used to go on the church treats too!).

Now a very comfortable house with large lounge with log burner, 4 good sized bedrooms. will accommodate 8 adults with ease with 2 older children/ teenagers and younger children including babies.

Bathroom facilities include: Ensuite to main bedroom with shower, hand basin and loo. Main family bathroom has roll top bath with handheld shower, handbasin and loo .There is a third loo downstairs .

Well behaved pets welcome. Lovely dog walks. Pub welcomes children and dogs(not compulsory!,).

There is room for double airbed in the lounge to give extra flexibility to the sleeping arrangements

George and Dragon Pub opposite is very welcoming.Search for Wereham George

“Beautiful Location”

Reviewed 23 Oct 2018

We couldn’t have wished for a better place for a peaceful break and catch up with friends. Ian and Dierdre ensured we felt welcome as did the locals. We lucked out with fabulous weather and enjoyed the sun in the front garden over looking the stunning village pond. We would have supported the local pub on Saturday for lunch but sadly it doesn’t open until 3pm. Plenty of linen available for the extra beds. Only lacked enough ice cube trays which is more a reflection of us than the property .

Response from the owner Many thanks Ruth Pleased you had a lovely weekend. Thanks for the alert re ice cube trays. We will ensure there is more available. Hope the gin and tonics hit the mark despite only having a few ice cubes. Hope to welcome you back again sometime.

“Lovely stay for dad's 70th birthday”

Reviewed 18 Oct 2017

Just come back from a lovely weekend at the house. There was 10 of us and the house accommodated us so comfortably. Ian and Debbie made us feel very welcome; provided us with all the information we needed about the house and left us a lovely welcome pack. The house is set in a beautiful little village. Everyone made us feel welcome and would highly recommend the pub opposite. They served Thai food the night we went in. Was delicious. The locals all chatted to us. Lovely weekend to celebrate my dad's birthday. Would highly recommend.
