Description
Sleeps up to 10 people, and pets go free (up to 2 well behaved dogs). Bright, spacious holiday home with open countryside views. La Residence au Verger ("ChezChartres"), is built on the site of a former vineyard, with its own orchard, fully enclosed, pet friendly gardens, and beautiful countryside views over fields and woodland. Village setting.
COVID19: Check-in is via key safe, and guests need have no physical contact with owners or property managers.
The sunny raised terrace is perfect for outdoor meals, barbecues or reading in the sun with a glass of good local wine (vineyard in Pissotte, 5 minutes drive). Library with books and games, UK freeview TV and French TV. A variety of outdoor games (boules, croquet, tennis racquets etc). Downstairs there is darts, table football, junior pool/snooker table and a table tennis table. The surrounding area is ideal for family holidays, whether sporty and active, or just enjoying the relaxing countryside. The fabulous Mervent Forest is on the edge of the village, with wooded valleys and lakes, boating, lake swimming and miles of walking, cycle paths and fishing. The forest also has a zoo and children's adventure park. The village has tennis, boules, and a beautiful wild park. Main town (Fontenay) is 3km, or 15 mins bike ride with many cafes, restaurants, shopping, and beautiful historic buildings.
The glorious Vendee beaches are also only 45 minutes away (Aiguillon sur mer is closest, then La Faute sur mer, and La Tranche sur Mer), making a very easy day trip.
Pets (maximum 2 dogs) can be accepted upon prior agreement with the owner.
There are a number of cycle hire shops and businesses nearby where you can book your bikes if you choose not to bring them with you. Bikehiredirect can deliver to the property.

“Lovely house, great location, good value.”
Massive house in a quiet village and country location, but loads to do nearby. It would easily accommodate a couple of family's or friends travelling together. Was excellent value and easy to find even though it was our first time travelling in France. Loads of room and books and games, videos and DVD's made it feel very homely. Even a piano, although the kids wouldn't leave it alone so I'm not sure that was a bonus. My son who is 7 loved the table football and ping pong downstairs, so lots to do when hanging around the house. We ate on the veranda most nights with views out over farmland. It is not overlooked. There is a big forest with loads of walks and a retro theme park which was excellent. There's a zoo in there too, all 10 minutes away. The beaches were 45mins away and lovely and deserted. We had a day of culture in La Rochelle which was an hours drive and you must go there, it's lovely, historic old architecture, if a bit overpriced. There was lots more to do but we only stayed a week. A great base for any holiday.
