Description from owner

Description

A really comfortable 3-bedroomed gite (2 doubles, 1 twin) with 3 bathrooms and a big garden of nearly 2 acres with a swimming pool heated to 28C from mid-May to late September. It is part of a former French farmhouse and has its own private garden with dining terrace and gas BBQ. The large garden to the rear is ideal for playing football, badminton and croquet. I'm a lover of nature and, as such, I encourage wild flowers and weeds around the garden providing a perfect sanctuary for many species of butterflies, stick insects, deer, hedgehogs, hares and large european green lizards etc.

A new addition for 2021 was the wildlife pond now stocked with goldfish, frogs and newts. Great fun at feeding time!

Sole use of the pool area during the day.

Pets are most welcome - I have a springer spaniel who loves children. The walk to the village is just 15 minutes and you can order your breakfast baguette and croissants from the shop. They also carry a good range of many products including English favourites. An excellent restaurant is open most lunchtimes and evenings at the weekend. A car is essential as the property is rural, but there are several vineyards within a short walk where you could stock up for your holiday. Bergerac 25 minutes.

“Home from Home”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2013

I would start by agreeing with everything that has been said in the earlier review, and in terms of description of the Gite I cannot add anything further other than to say it suited us perfectly with a young family. But would equally suit 2/3 couples. We stayed at the property for 5 weeks, the whole of September and the first week of October. We didn't want to come home. We had everything we needed and it was a veritable Home from Home. Ali the owner was very friendly and was a font of knowledge about the area, she was available if you needed anything but otherwise she did not impose. Both our girls enjoyed the company of Charlie the dog, who is very good with children, but if you are not a dog lover, then the owner would ensure that Charlie stayed away.. We travelled with our two daughters who were 2 and half and 7 months who both enjoyed their stay with the large gardens and the swimming pools. The surrounding area is wonderful and there are a great number of vineyards where you can taste the wine within a very quick drive away, many only a few minutes drive away. The supermarkets are about 20 minutes away by car and the large supermarket at St Foy Le Grande, called Le Clair. I would struggle to name something they didn't sell, however the local shop in Loubes Bernac stocks most provisions you would need, especially lovely ice cream and fresh croissants and bread. Nadine the owner also serves up lovely coffees which we unfortunately only discovered in our last week. We went to all the local markets and the local towns, Eymet and Issigieac were our favourites. Bergerac is worth a visit, it has a lovely old quarter which has some lovely buildings. We also enjoyed the boat ride down the river. The surrounding countryside is lovely with all the vines and the fields of sunflowers. They were harvesting the grapes whilst we were there which was fascinating to see. We had a trip out to the Aquarium the other side of Bergerac which the girls enjoyed especially feeding the coy carp. St Emilion was also well worth a visit and not as expensive as we thought it would be. We intend to go back next year, perhaps this time at the beginning of the season, so we can see how the countryside views have changed. We travelled from the North West of England to Portsmouth and caught the overnight ferry to St Malo, which I would recommend with young children. We stayed overnight on the way down near La Rochelle so we could take things easy and stop a few times. However on the way back we did it in a day, and it was also okay, although probably would be quicker if the children were older. In summary I would thoroughly recommend staying at this Gite and we will be returning next year, and who knows for many years to come, as we still did not get round all the vineyards.
