“Heaven on earth?”

Forodhani is a Beautiful house (spell with a big "B"), cause that is how Beautiful it is. It's located on the heart of the pier of Shella. Forodhani is a place where you can come for holiday and enjoy the easy life of Lamu. The guesthouse is the first house you'll see when coming to Shella, and the last house you see in the sunset when you're leaving. Forodhani has a staff who is excellent, they treat you like a star and take care of you in every way you need. The rooms are beautiful and clean, and every morning you can wake up of the breeze from the sea. Fresh seabreeze, beautiful view and tasty breakfast made with fresh food from the local market. Forodhani is worth every penny, euro, dollar, kroner or whatever valuta you use. Forodhani is a guest house that's worth your time :)

“Amazing place !”

The house is beautifully situated in the heart of the village, the view is fantastic: what a pleasure to watch the sunrise and boats gliding over the sea ... the house is spacious, beautiful, tastefully decorated, the rooms are spacious and bright, the pool very nice and relaxing. In addition, the service is perfect and food really fresh and good. We had the best time ever. A paradise on earth!

This beautiful home will comfortably welcome you if you are 2 or 12 in your party. There is a quiet corner for everyone. Gentle breezes thru every door and window along with beautiful views. The chef presents delicious meals from the fresh seafood brought to your door every day. We enjoyed the sounds below of the local 'goings on'. The sundowners on the terrace. Returning home with the greatest sense of relaxation, we feel there is nothing that compares to Forodhani House.

“Beautiful Seafront House in Shela!”

Forodhani House is a great holiday retreat away from life's hectic pace. The house is beautiful, the staff very welcoming and you are minutes from the most perfect deserted beach in the world! Highly recommended!

“Sublime Forodhani”

What can I say about my stay in Forodhani ? I am neither poet nor novelist so have not words enough to describe it, but let me try. Imagine awakening to hear the fishermen leaving the jetty at sunrise, an evocative sound that only helps one dream further with only the sound of the waves lapping on the jetty till the children board the water taxis to head to school in nearby Lamu town. This should waken you as by now the sun is burning brightly through your front windows. So you shower and head downstairs to the kitchen where the coffee is waiting, and you discuss with the chef your preferences for breakfast. You sit in the dining area with open view over the the garden and lagoon to Manda Island with the occasional dhow sailing by. If you are lucky, as I was, you could see a pod of dolphins swim by. During breakfast the chef will ask if you have any special wishes for lunch or dinner, maybe freshly caught lobster or red snapper or maybe just calamari? After breakfast, the beach is at your front, so depending on the tide you can either walk outside for a swim in the sea or jump in the swimming pool. Time passes deceptively slowly in Shela, and unfortunately before you know it, you will have have to leave this paradise. The memories however will never leave you: the evening sunset cruising on the dhows, the sundowners at Peponi Hotel only 100 meters away, the walks along the virtually empty beach, the deliciously fresh seafood meals. Yes, I want to do it again!

“Paradise is here”

I had the opportunity to stay two weeks in beautiful Forodhani House in Shela with my two teenage sons. Located directly on the seafront of the Indian Ocean, build and furnished in the local Swahili Style we felt we were in Paradise. We enjoyed the comfortable spacy rooms and the terrific view on the ocean. Shela has a very beautiful beach, but we also appreciated the private pool of the house a lot. The Food prepared by the Forodhani cook was delicious and all the staff was very friendly. They helped us make arrangements for fishing and sailing trips with local fishermen. Catching a Tuna and two big Kingfish was a highlight for the boys. They also did a lot of watersports: wakeboarding, water-skying, sailing, surfing, snorgelling... At the end of our stay we had the chance to meet Isabelle, the lovely French owner of the house. We had a wonderful dinner together. We have already made bookings for our next stay in Shela, in beautiful Forodhani House.

“A Haven of Peace in a crazy world”

I have been going to Lamu for the past 8 years and last year discovered Forodhani House. In its perfect setting it is the ideal place to spend a holiday. The staff who welcome you are warm and full of attention while being discrete. The people in Shela are the friendliest I have met and I have travelled a lot. I am going back and can't wait to take my next sunset sail.
