Description from owner
Description
This is a charming, 400 years old croatian stone house, located in a small Dalmatian fishing village Bratus, in the coastal heart of southern Croatia. Situated approximately 48km from Split and 8km from Makarska, it offers a wealth of opportunities for all tastes. The house has all modern amenities such as WIFI, air-conditioning, washing machine and a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, hob/oven and it has a central heating. Situated in the secluded 'Gustirna' (plaza/piazza) in a village centre and only 20 metres from the sea, the house is perfectly located for access to the village whilst enjoying the benefits of being 'tucked away' from the main street.Outside the house is one of the few remaining original stone mills, traditionally used for making olive oil. This mill is still in working order although no longer used for oil making and is protected by the National Heritage.Bratus is a small fishing village, self-contained for all your holiday needs. The village contains a small shop for essentials, a charming restaurant, a cafe and a beach bar, all within easy reach. It is a place where you can either sit back, relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery or try your hand at some of the adventure activities available in the area. The mountain range of Biokovo offers a wealth of opportunities for trekking and hiking, and the beautiful river Cetina is ideal for rafting and canyoning.

“Wonderful place to stay”
Bratus is a very small village 15 minutes drive north of Makarska. It’s charming with two small beachside restaurants. The three of us (two adults and a 5 year old) stayed for two amazing weeks. The house is set back just off the beach within a courtyard shared by a number of the locals. Its interior is very rustic and maybe not to everyone’s taste but is comfortable and fitted out with everything you need. To be fair we didn’t spend much time in the property, only cooking and sleeping. There is a small covered terrace and thats where we spent our time when in the mornings and evenings. We were made very welcome by all of the local characters. Especially Mario who runs the restaurant between the house and the beach. It’s a really safe place for little people and our son enjoyed running too and from the beach. we had the most amazing 2 weeks and would definitely stay again, the location is just perfect! It’s a hidden gem and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. Great communication with our hosts. Beer, wine and milk was waiting for us on our arrival. Thank you! X

“Beautiful Bratus indeed- paradise of tranquility and calm.”
House full of charm and loving energy. House is equipt with everything you would need for a self catering family holiday. Was useful to be supplied with basics such as washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, cling film, and a few toilet rolls on arrival. With the unspoken culture to leave behind anything you buy but don't use that might make the next person's holiday easier. House a is clean and cool retreat from the sun when it is needed. Shaded terrace was a welcome place to eat our meals. The local restaurant offers excellent choice of food and is reasonably priced compared to restaurants of similar quality in other European destinations. Beds are clean and comfortable but main bedroom has 2 single beds that cannot be made into a double. Local supermarket within 20 mins walk has limited supplies and is expensive. The local fruit stalls offer high quality and reasonably priced fruit and veg. We would recommend getting a taxi into makarska to the lidl supermarket there for a big shop at beginning of holiday. The local shop has fresh bread and pastries daily which are yummy. Ice cream shop locally. Beach, restaurant and shops literally within 45 second walk from house. House offers sun loungers on beach x 2 which ensures a space on beach. Beach is clean and at this week of year is uncrowded. Consider to bring or buy here foam mats for lying or playing on beach as it is a pebble beach. Plastic diving type shoes or flip flops are also useful as walking on the beach hurts your feet without them. Consider to bring a snorkel to see the sealife under water. For full relaxation experience. Apart from the trip to supermarket which we combined with a beautiful work along the coast, stopping for lunch on the way and getting a taxi back. You do not need to leave this place. It is truly a place of peace and calm and you will want to return year after year. My 9 year old was happy playing in sea for full week. There is little else to do. She want to come back next year, so a hit with her too. We are thinking to hire a boat tomorrow.
