We had the pleasure of staying at Villa Aparna for 3 weeks. Overall our stay was fabulous - the villa is absolutely gorgeous. The property is huge; easily large enough for two families. We were two couples and an infant and didn't use half the villa. Positives: - Beautiful and large property with an excellent layout for two families or multiple couples - Pleasant and helpful staff: Sudapta, the cook was wonderful and we ate almost all our meals at the villa. He would buy all our food every day from a local market including beverages and make runs to a local bakery for extremely reasonable prices. Patricia, the owner was extremely helpful and responsive before and during our stay. Ketut, the manager was also very prompt and helpful. I echo previous comments about having the massage services - the cost is essentially nothing and it's a perfect way to enjoy the upper balcony - Close to great snorkelling at Pemeturan Bay - Everything you could need at a very reasonable price - you don't need to leave the villa at all! And if you do, Ketut will arrange a driver for you to take you wherever you want to go (we spent three days in Ubud in the middle of our stay). Negatives: - You are extremely remote from the rest of Bali. There are really no options for restaurants or any sort of night life. We ate lunch out a couple times the only two restaurants we could find just to get out but there is nothing really to rave about. - The drive from the airport is long (3+ hrs) and with the crazy driving in Bali, it's extremely dangerous at night - we would caution anyone to make sure you do not drive at night. The driver we had was insane, making blind hairpin turns in the dark on mountain passes and we were all incredibly stressed by the time we arrived. We learned our lesson and made sure we never drove at night again and also asked Ketut for a more careful driver for the rest of our stay. - Although you are on the ocean, we found the water to be extremely dirty - garbage was floating over from Jakarta almost every day. It's too bad because the water temperature is really warm. - Bugs: you are in the jungle of course so you have to expect ants, mosquitoes (day and night) etc. The staff fumigate before new guests arrive but if, like us, you are staying for a long time (>1 week), I would ask them to fumigate halfway through your stay. We really felt all the "critters" encroaching after 10 days or so.
Response from the owner Thank you very much for the positive comments which I really appreciate. As for the less positive, yes it is right, Villa Aparna is in a remote area, there are few restaurants around but nightlife is not what our guests are looking for. Roads are narrow, like every where else in Indonesia, especially to reach north Bali since we have to pass a volcano. Obviously you have not been lucky for the sea and bugs, none of our previous guests did report this so far. Hope to see you again at Villa Aparna. Warm regards, Patricia
“Beautiful villa and relaxed stay”
This is a beautiful villa. Stunning during the day with superbly designed lighting at night especially in the huge garden. I've been to Bali many times and wanted to check out the quiet, north west and also have the opportunity for easy access to Menjangen Island. If you want to get away from the crazy commercial side of Bali, this is the place. The cook is excellent and will cook what ever you want - his chips/fries are fantastic as are his local Balinese dishes. There is a 'real' pool where you can swim lengths, a lovely bale to relax and in the evenings you can catch a movie in the well stocked living room. The bedroom design is excellent. Powerful aircon and dark night curtains so you can get a good sleep. Yes it's a long way from the south, but that's the point. Once you are here, you've got a villa, built and maintained to a high standard.
“Stunning villa with excellent staff and beautiful environment”
We spent a week in may at villa Aparna and we really fell in love with this place in Bali. Situated far away from busy place, we could feel the deep traditional spirit of Bali. The villa is fantastic, facing the Bali sea, and you will see fisherman boats all day long in front of high mountains of Java. The very friendly staff was taking care of us, preparing local food in front of a very nice and huge swimming pool . This is far better than staying in a hotel. That was a very charming stay and we definitely recommend the place for some holidays in Bali.
“A calm and elegant oasis”
Our week long stay at Villa aparna was perfect. We were met at the airport and driven across the island to the villa. The staff were warm and engaging and eager to please. We ate in most evenings and Sudapta the chef did a fine job of catering to the differing dietary preferences of our family of five. Desi the housekeeper is a gem and she spoiled us. We used in-house spa services, went snorkeling, explored waterfalls and temples. North Bali is a paradise - quiet by comparison to the southern beaches. Highly recommended by all in our party.
“Christmas and New Year's”
We stayed at Villa aparna for 12 days over the Christmas/New Year holidays. This is a fabulous house and we had a wonderful stay. We ate dinner every night at the house- the food is fresh and quite good. Sudupta the cook and Desi the house cleaner were helpful and pleasant and so sweet to us and our children. I really recommend the early morning dolphin boat ride. This was our favorite activity and they pick you up right beyond the backyard. Ketut the house manager arranged snorkeling for my husband and older children, and they also highly recommend this trip. I also have to thank all of the staff. My youngest child became sick with an ear infection while we were there. Everyone was so helpful and concerned. They helped us find the right doctor and after a day he was much better. We so appreciated all of the help. Thank you for a great vacation!
We will keep a fantastic souvenir of our stay here. Since the first minutes we had a feeling of well being, like at home, with the luxury, the scenic view with the pool and the sea behind in addition. The Villa is decorated with taste, combining Balinese traditional architecture and very modern equipments, equivalent to a 5 stars hotels. We were 4, including 2 adolescents of 14 & 16, staying 4 days, having more than enough space for enjoying our holidays in Bali, far from the very crowdy south touristic area. The location is very well suited to have different activities and we had an excursion to see dolphins ( pick-up boat at the beach in front of the villa !), hiking to waterfalls, diving & snorkelling on Menjangan island, hot spring bath, etc. We appreciated also having some rest at the Villa, around the pool, drinking a Bintang, with a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The personal is wonderfull, with kindness and discretion. We had here some excellent diners and brunches, prepared by Sudapta, the chief. If we can, we will come back for sure.
We were 6 people staying for 10 days in July and we really enjoyed this amazing house, the friendly staff, the huge pool and last but not least the highly professional organization of our stay by Ketut- the manager. The owners are very cooperative and responsive and did an impressively good job in building and decorating the house. So we really can recommend this place!
“I fell in Love with aparna”
Even for those like me who've been several times in Bali and tried a few villas, this place is really fantastic. From the moment the front gate open until all the way through the gardens, visiting the villa, and up to the sea, the impression is magic. We only stayed 4 days in the villa but we did have time to enjoy many of the greatness of the place. From smimming in a huge pool to sailing amongst the Dolphins, through relaxing massages and great local cuisine. I actually would not want to share too much of the many things as part of the pleasure is in the discovery. The quality of the staff is one good example. One last thing is that the place is also great if you have kids. There's plenty of space for them to play and have fun. I fell in love with aparna. Rod G. Singapore
