Are you seeking an authentic experience, one that gives you the true sense of a place — where you feel at home, as if you’ve always belonged?
The Green Cottage is a vintage beach house that sits at the water’s edge at the southern end of Morro Bay, on California’s Central Coast. It is a romantic vacation rental for two people, beautifully refurbished and filled with art, antiques and hand-made quilts. It offers comfort, privacy, solitude and views that go on forever.
It is the perfect hideaway at the end of a small peninsula tucked away in a quiet residential area of Los Osos. Our part of California is off the beaten path and we like it that way. We live our lives a little slower than the rest of the world. That gives us time to see more of what there is to see and to experience more of the things that are authentic and meaningful — all far, far away from fast-paced big-city lives.
There is something here that evokes reminiscent images of days gone by. Ice cream shops, a famous cookie company, boardwalks, local cafés only locals know about, wineries, art galleries, saloons, hiking trails and deserted beaches perfect for long walks and collecting shells.
Originally a fisherman’s cottage from early 1900s, the Green Cottage has old world charm with today’s comforts. It features the most sought-after attractions in our area: privacy, unobstructed views of Morro Bay, Morro Rock, Baywood Park, and the mountains beyond. This single-story, cozy cottage is irresistibly charming, with emphasis on comfort and view. It provides you with the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, in romance — here in “the middle kingdom” as National Geographic once called this region of California. It is a natural escape, a refuge and home base for exploring the beautiful Central Coast and all it has to offer.
The Cottage features an open plan interior with an eclectic style of décor, including contemporary and vintage pieces, with the addition of family heirlooms to add just the right amount of coziness and comfort. Step inside and make a cup of tea or cook a gourmet meal in the fully-equipped kitchen to enjoy by candlelight or under the stars on the Cottage deck.
When you step out onto the deck — be warned — you will not want to leave. There you can sit for hours with your coffee or glass of wine and look down along the shoreline, across the bay to Morro Rock, to the sand dunes and the surrounding mountains.
If you want to connect with the outside world, we make it easy with fast free Wi-Fi. But we suggest making contact on a more personal level by taking a walk along the water and seeing where life takes you. In that way, the Cottage becomes your inspirational refuge.

COVID: During this time we have instituted rigorous sanitization and disinfection protocol beyond just cleaning. We have a no-contact check-in and check-out and we now schedule at least 48 hours between guests. We want our guests to be safe, and to feel safe, comfortable and secure.

We are always delighted to hear how much our guests love their experience here. In the past five years tourism has seen some big changes. Travelers have lost interest in cookie cutter restaurants, lodging and attractions. Instead, they are looking for “authenticity.” They want local foods, local attractions and a real connection to the lifestyles of local people. These visitors want to get off the freeways and discover the little towns of America, like ours. People are looking for an authentic small coastal town experience, where they can have coffee at the locals’ hangout, visit local artists, hike Montaña de Oro, and enjoy nature at its best. We believe providing a "spotless" Cottage is just the start of a great experience. We think it's all the little things that make the BIG difference, and we do everything we can to provide that kind of excellence. We love it when our guests acknowledge it. Response from the owner We loved meeting this couple. They were looking for a way and a place to get out of the big city and to spend time in nature and wide open spaces, safely. The deck overlooking the water should come with a warning: beware...you may never want to leave. Yes, the views go on forever and our guests seem to regulate their day by the cycle of the tides. The Cottage is quiet, peaceful and very private. The birds, right out front, usually provide hours of entertainment. Response from the owner We love our return guests. We get to know them, and what they like, or might like. It's easy to point someone to a special trail when you know they like a 2-hour hike; or a great off-the-beaten path Mexican restaurant with the world's greatest salsa, when we learn our guests love cilantro. Wineries are a different matter. We have over 300 in the County now, and while we have our favorites there are probably well over 200 we have yet to try. There's lots to do and experience here, and we love to share it. The most important thing is, we want our guests to feel like they are "coming home" not just visiting a vacation rental. So flowers, hand made quilts, antiques, art, and lots of interesting accoutrements are in abundance at the Green Cottage. Visit soon, and see why our guests return each year.
