Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Galle road is lovely Villa Gallindawatta. My husband, my sister and I enjoyed a very relaxing 5 night stay there. The Villa has a beautiful garden which is visited by lots of lovely birds, butterflies and monkeys. The area around the pool is truly relaxing with comfy lounges for a lazy afternoon nap over looking the paddy fields. The house was well equipped and comfortable. Tam has very thoughtfully made available a large range of board games, books, a selection of good music and dvds for guests to enjoy. The staff were very attentive and we enjoyed delicious home cooked meals. The Villa is only a 10 min tuk tuk ride to the fabulous Hikkaduwa beach. Although it was off season the beach was patrolled by life guards and the swimming was very safe near the reef. Our sea swim was extra special as we had three giant sea turtles to keep us company! Tam's guest manual was very informative and helpful. We would love to visit the Villa again on our next holiday.
Response from the owner Thank you Samantha for the lovely review. So glad you were able to swim with the turtles. A truely magical experience. Love to have you visit us again. Best wishes, Tam
“Wonderful villa and area”
We had a fantastic stay in Tam's villa where we stayed for one month. The house and garden are lovely and well kept, full of wild animals, including monkeys and monitor lizards. The kids had a wonderful time in Hikkaduwa and its coral reef, just minutes from the house by tuktuk or car. The house staff is very friendly and helpful, we had a minor car accident and Roshan was invaluable in making sure we would not get ripped off by the insurance company or car rental company. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet and green spot, away from but yet close enough to the hustle and bustle of Hikkaduwa.
Response from the owner Thank you Aurelie and family for the lovely review. Glad to you enjoyed your month at the villa.
We were lucky and enjoyed this wonderful oasis of luxury and calm for 16 nights in February 14. The villa itself is well appointed and has everything you could possibly want or need but it is the garden, pool and service that makes this place so special. The views from the garden especially down by the pool and pavilion are fantastic with rice paddy, buffalo, egrets and a myriad of other tropical birds. You feel a million miles away from everything as you are surrounded by swaying palm trees and other tropical plants and flowers. We enjoyed the charming 10 minute walk to the enormous, clean beach that is also fringed by Palm trees and little restaurants, and if you want a bit more nightlife Hikkaduwa is only a short Tuk Tuk ride away. The best food we ate was prepared by Roshan and the team who are always on hand to cook or assist you in any way, even stocking the fridge up with your favourite drinks and preparing the most delicious Sri Lankan breakfasts. We had a couple of barbecues down by the pool which were lovely and very good value. The staff make your stay comfortable without being intrusive and are happy to arrange motorbike hire, meals, Tuk Tuk rides and excursions which takes any stress out of arranging things, they are a really nice, friendly group of young men, who you feel completely safe and comfortable with. We have visited Sri Lanka on numerous occasions and this is definitely our favourite place to stay to date. Tam is so easy to deal with too when booking, which also makes life much easier.
Response from the owner Thank you Julie for your kind words and such a lovely review. We look forward to welcoming you and Jonathan in the future. Best wishes, Tam
“Home away from home!”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Roshan and his staff. This was a wonderful home made even better by the incredibly attentive service we received. Roshan listened to every whim we had and made each of these thing happen with what appeared to be effortless ease. He is a world class host in addition to being an incredible cook. Thanks Roshan for making our stay so very memorable. The home itself is located about ten minutes walk from the beach. We did not find this distance to be a deterrence, as the villa comes with a tuktuk. (Roshan was more than happy to arrange pickup and drop off times for us whenever we wanted to travel about.) It is a well appointed place, with more than enough space to comfortably house our group of six adults. Please take Roshan up on his offer to provide your meals! They are indeed as good as all of the previous reviews described. He works magic out of the kitchen. This is a home I would recommend to family and friends. I hope we are fortunate enough to return someday.
“Extended stay in Sri Lankan sanctuary”
Our initial three day booking at Gallindawatta villa drifted irresistably into five very relaxing, comfortable ones in this peaceful home. Meeting the friendly Roshan and other staff was the first in a series of surprises that enamoured us with this place. The garden and pool were more beautiful than the photos showed, the house was immaculate, well appointed and homely and the food and service was really wonderful. It seemed nothing was too much trouble in the kitchen and all tyhe staff went about their work, conscious of providing guests with privacy combined with service, suggestions and advice when needed. We felt especially spoilt with the range and quality of fresh, delicious meals, with far more than adequate quantities served. The property is quiet and secluded, not far from the simple activity around small nearby villages, or a tuk tuk ride to town or beach. The feeling is that of safe sanctuary, close to nature and free from the noise of city life, yet there are all the modern facilities you need to stay entertained and in touch with the rest of the world. The website description is understated, so finding our accommodation better than expected made it very difficult to leave. We highly recommend an extended stay to settle in, feel the rhythms of life at Gallindawatta and fully appreciate all that it has to offer.
“Get pampered in Hikkaduwa”
Allthough you can book the three seperate rooms via agoda, Villa Gallindawatta is definetely not an hotel. It's much better. We rented the whole villa for a week in July 2013. We arrived around 9 o' clock in the morning, straight from the airport and thoroughly jetlagged. We we're welcomed with fresh fruit juice en big smiles by cook and manager Roshan and his aide Tishara. The villa has a vestibule, a large living room with dining area and three double bedrooms. The bedroom are airconditioned, the living room has a fan. There's an entertainment center with loads of movies and cd's for when the weather isn't to good, but if it's dry it's much nicer to venture outside. The 6000 square metre property has it's own infinity swimming pool, grea foor cooling of at the end of the day. Anytime of the day. Allthough we visited in the southwest monsoon low season, we did not get a lot of rain, except during the night when we were sleeping. The villa is situated about one kilometer inland and it's an easy 10 minute stroll to the beach. As it was low season, there weren't many tourists, so not a lot of beach restaurants and bars were in operation. Basically we had the beach (and the Hug Inn) almost to ourselves. We visited Galle by tuktuk an Roshan took us to a moonstone mine where we made our own silver jewelry. There is a menu, but you don't really need it. Roshan worked as a cook in large hotels and on ships, so he is able to rustle up anything you order. We had all kinds of curry meals, fashioned to the not spicy taste of our kids, but also great spaghetti bolognese. Breakfast with lovely fruits and lunch are also made to order. Roshan does the shopping and you pay the bills and a little extra for cooking gas and petrol. If you book, deal directly with the owner Tam via Flipkey, that way you avoid the bookingfees of agoda. We we're thoroughly spoiled during the week and really enjoyed our stay here.
An extremely comfortable house in a beautiful setting. Pool is fabulous and the chef is to die for, Best meals we had in Sri Lanka and we had some good ones. Would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone
“Villa Gallindawatte- Privacy guranteed”
Beyond the sunlight beaches, is a well hidden secret beauty; The lush rice fields, rippling in the breeze in a tranquil calm of its own and the long fields of waving coconut palms; a world of undisturbed peace, privacy, exclusivity and self sufficiency of its own, broken only by a distant bird call. This is the world that the Villa Gallindawatte (House of the Stone Well) inhabits. staying at the Villa is like staying at you own place. It invites your to laze with impunity or take a plunge in the pool. All at your own pace Villa Gallindawatte is clearly, loved by somebody. It is evidently very well-cared for; beautifully and lovingly manicured and landscaped. The sprawling one and a half acre garden is covered in the rolling carpets of lush, green turf the garden is punctuated with ferns and flowering shrubs, bamboo clumps, rock sculptures and dwells in silence amidst towering trees and abundant bird life. The menu contains items like Pasta with Pesto Sauce, Grilled chicken with Salad and fries and even a light dinner with Soup and Garlic Toast and the all time favourite rice and curry, all of which the Chef and Caretaker Roshan will whip up to for you in no time. But be advised that you can only choose two different choices of meals so as to not to inundate the kitchen
“A spot of paradise in Sri Lanka with the setting and the food to”
Our family of six arrived looking for some much needed rest and relaxation. This villa and surrounds provided exactly what we needed. A beautifully appointed 3 bedroom house set in a large, well established garden. The infinity pool and adjacent pavilion overlooking the surrounding rice paddies was a highlight for us all. All of this was topped by the excellent. helpful staff, led by Roshan, who were on hand to look after our every need. They were most helpful in providing us with tips about what to see in the local area and how to go about getting there by ordering Tuk Tuks etc. Roshan, the chef prepared for us the most delicious meals that we were to have in Sri Lanka. We were able to select from a menu of both eastern and western foods for every meal we required. It was our first stop in our 2 week trip to Sri Lanka and was certainly the place we would most like to revisit. 5 Star!!!
