The cottage is in a quiet rural location accessed by a private road. The pretty flint village of Stiffkey is a 10mins walk away or 2 mins drive. It has a charming family friendly village pub (freehouse) which serves good local beer (Woodfordes and Adnams) and good food. There is also a village shop / cafe.

There are good beaches at Wells and Holkham but you will be charged for parking. There are several National Trust properties in the area such as Felbrigg Hall which is well worth a look and walk about its grounds. The Queen's country pile at Sandringham is nearby. Palladium style Holkham Hall is very close. Pensthorpe where Spring Watch was filmed is near Fakenham and is open to the public. There are seals (common & grey) at Blakeney Point that you can see from one of the boatman working out of Morston or Blakeney.

Narrow gauge steam railway runs from Wells to Walsingham on the old branch line route.

Full gauge steam railway runs from Holt to Sheringham. The Poppy Line.

The Stiffkey marshes are owned by the National Trust, access to it and the wider saltings (sand flats) is free. There are about 20,000 acres of marsh & foreshore running from Holkam in the West to Blakeney Point in the East. After that the coastline is stony or sandy. This is salt marsh and is washed twice daily by the sea. The marshes are intersected with creeks. At low tide most of these are seldom more than 3 or 4 feet deep in places and offer a lot of fun to all ages to swim & play in. They are very varied with the part to the West comprising of mud and deep creeks and the part nearest the cottage becoming more sandy and shallower every year. 'Crabbing' is a popular pastime with children, you can buy crab lines in many shops in Wells or round about, just put a piece of bacon fat (cooked or raw) in the net and drop in the creek and see if you can catch small unedible green crabs, which are returned unharmed afterwards. The marshes are tidel and so one needs to be aware of it, there is a tide clock in the kitchen giving a reasonably accurate indication of the state of the tide.
