Description
Built in 1908, it is a typical British colonial bungalow, standing in its own grounds. With a varied roof line which hints at cool, high-ceilinged interiors protected from the hot desert air by thick walls and deep, shaded verandas. The Ajmer Bungalow, from the outside, looks exactly as it did when it was built. The interiors have been brought up to date with modern bathrooms and air conditioning and are furnished with our own furniture, books and paintings.
The house is approached across a large front lawn, the scene of many merry gatherings of family and friends. The smaller, more private, tranquil garden at the back is a birdwatcher’s paradise or the quiet reader’s haven.
Conveniently close to the bus stop and station, 10 minutes drive from the Old Bazaar and major sights of interest and a 20 minute drive from Pushkar, this warm and inviting family residence is the perfect place to base yourselves, when in Ajmer.
Naveen, the great grandson of Shanker Lal Capoor , left Ajmer as a young man to build a successful career in Bombay’s high pressure world of advertising. Rajika, looked after the home and learned and taught French German and English. Meanwhile, the Ajmer Bungalow, once alive with artists, music and family, grew quiet. Coming home to Ajmer after long stints in Mumbai and Delhi, the couple brought back with them their passion for animals,entertaining and wide-ranging interests that include reading (everything under the sun), music - Indian and Western, gardening, bird watching, light trekking, painting, pottery, textiles, jewellery and a few more. Good food is a religion: the art of cooking, we believe, is up there with the pure arts. In fact, by opening the Bungalow to guests, we hope to share our interests with our visitors.We are currently researching the processes of goat cheese making and bee-keeping, and would welcome any advice or tips that guests may have to offer!
