- Very Good
Great accomodation. Very nice hosts. Very clean. Great spacious grounds & a quiet location. Stairs are very steep (gate at the top for little ones) - mobility impaired would struggle. Great big rec room with table tennis table that the kids loved. Short drive to shops - nicely positioned to explore both the Champagne region & Verdun WWI memorials.
Response from the owner Many thanks Mike, for writing this excellent report of your and your family's stay at the hunting lodge in New Years week. It was such exceptionnally lousy weather this time. It feels great to hear you still enjoyed the place. In particular from an Australian, used to a definitely more pleasant climate at this time of the year. All the best to you all. Johannes
“Perfect lodge getaway in the countryside!”
The lodge was an excellent choice for 6 people to stay. M. Landman was gracious and more than accommodating in making our arrangements last minute. The place was renovated, clean and beautiful. The only problem was the short length of our stay--we'll be back!
“Nice weekend in the sun in Champagne”
We spent a relaxing weekend in May at the Hunting Lodge. The grounds of the chateau were lovely and we spent a hot afternoon by the pool. Closest towns on the Champagne route are about 30+ mins away, but time passes quickly on the highway and we did some great tastings in Vaudemange, Tours-sur-Marne and Bouzy.
“Great family holiday”
Our family (2 adults, 2 children, 1 baby) stayed for a week in June 2011. The lodge was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean, equipped with everything you could need for a family break. The pool, table tennis and bikes were a great hit. Mr and Mrs Landman and housekeeper were charming and very helpful. The village is very quiet - great for walking and cycling and our children went pony riding at the local farm. Lots of foodie places nearby and a very good restaurant in the next village. Many places to visit - Champagne route/Epernay, Verdun and many war sites - visiting the Butte de Vauquois is very moving. It's a special place and we would thoroughly recommend staying here.
“Huntinglodge - Villers-en-argonne, Champagne-Ardenne, France”
My wife,4 friends and I spent a week at The Huntinglodge last summer. It was a fantastic venue which exceeded all our expectations. Mr Landman and his wife were very welcoming hosts giving good advice on local restaurants and things to see. The lodge itself was beautiful and very well furnished. The swimming pool was superb and we made regular use of the barbeque, bikes and table tennis table also provided. We can't wait to return. Matt Hemmings
“Unique holiday experience!”
A very friendly welcome, ideal setting in the chateau grounds. The main apartment was very comfortable and well equipped. The swimming pool was fantastic, with or without the cover, (we were able to use it regardless of the weather). The Champagne ardenne region is very scenic, both Paris and Luxembourg are within reach and are well worth the visit, even if only for the day.
“luxery place to stay,in a nice area”
mr landman was very pleasant,he came over and welcomed us,he also showed us around his grounds,my daughter loved the pool.the house was ver nice,it had everything we needed and more, the rooms were lovely.we would return one day. The area also has a lot to offer for all ages, and also if you want to travel a few hours away there are some lovely cities,we went into germany and luxembourg for a day too. It was nice in the evenings relaxing outside having a glass of wine(or 2)there were also things for my daughter to play with and plenty of room to run around. Asll in all a very nice relaxing holiday,we all enjoyed it.
Response from the owner Many thanks for this rapid reaction and your kind comments. All the best to you, Johannes Landman
“Drink in the atmosphere”
We picked this location for a family & friends get-together amongst cheese and champagne. Go for a drive to do some tastings. Do short or long walks in the area and take in nature. Swim in the private pool. Load up on extremely affordable quality champagne at the supermarket. Add good meat and cheese, bread, fresh herbs. Great facilities for cooking in house. Enjoy lovely evenings in the front yard. Bakery van comes at your doorstep in the morning with croissants. Need I say more?
Response from the owner Dear Koen, Thank you very much for this review. I really appreciate such a positive reaction to my belated request on the occasion of opening this listing on a new site, that is Flipkey, Best regards, Johannes
“The Smell of History ...and Champagne”
In the summer of 2011 I've spent two weeks in the hunting lodges of mr .Landman. They are large, very well equipped en marvellously decorated with old paintings, antiques and old furniture. You can smell history. But there is also a 21th Century swimming pool. The lodges are situated near the castle, with many gardens, meadows and trees: nice for al walk. The surroundings of Villers are also interesting. I've visited the old battlefields of the French Revolution (Valmy, Varennes) and the First World War, places full of history. And don't forget the sparkling wines of the Champagne! So I can advise anyone a visit to Villers: it's a good "point de depart for interesting tours through the old landscape of the Champagne.
