“Одно из красивейших мест на Земле!”
Вилла Гради - одно из красивейших мест на Земле! Солнце, море, гостеприимство хозяев! Великолепная природа и оригинальный каскадный дизайн виллы.
I've been meaning to leave a review since the day I got home (many months ago) but juts never had a chance. The house is absolutely splendid, beautifully finished and equipped and every mod con you will need. The gardens and pool are superbly maintained and cleaned daily while you sleep. The fruit and veg growing in the garden is there to use and so tasty. The family who own the house are wonderful people. So kind and welcoming and so interesting to chat to. They understand the need for privacy and even when they are there maintaining or cleaning you just don't notice them. The villa is quite a long way from Dubrovnik (25 mins by bus or car) or if like us you rent a sportboat for the week you can get there in about 20 mins and right into the old town harbour. The vill has a private boat dock and moorings so no problem to leave a boat outside villa for whole holiday and use it to explore the lovely islands and beaches. The villa is right on main road but there were no noise issues, you just need to be a little careful when crossing it to boat dock (owners will show you safest way to do this). Would I go back again? Absolutely and without reservation I would and so would all my family (we were 5 couples with couple babies between us) and it was so relaxing and welcoming and spacious we will for sure return one day (and for longer than a week). If there was a 7* villa this would be it...
“A wonderful family holiday”
The Villa Gradi more than met our our expectations. It's a beautiful building set on a hillside with terraces overlooking the sea and gardens filled with flowers or fruits/veg on each level. Excellent facilities including a number of kitchens, everything was immaculate and the the owners very friendly and welcoming - they even provided a wonderful lunch when we arrived. The villa is ideally situated for exploring Dubrovnik, the coast and islands by car and boat. The private jetty in front of the villa was a great spot for cooling down in the sea. Just a few yards away you can hire jet skis and the owner can also arrange taxis, boat trips etc. A visit to Ston is a must if you like seafood. Overall a fantastic place to stay for a family holiday and we would definitely recommend it to others.
“Amazing historical property with a truly chilling story to tell”
If you want to understand the history of Dubrovnik and understand the recent 1991 war and the rebuilding of the city, this is a good place to start. The family who owns the property are natives who lived through the bombing and have a chilling story to tell. The house was destroyed to a large extent but has been rebuilt as close to the original as is possible. 3 of the family are architects, one engineer and "mom" whose family home it was, is a published professor of archeology and history, special people. The house is built on many levels with a beautiful pool on the top level. The bedrooms and baths are comfortable but not luxurious. The outdoor living spaces and gardens are most inviting and wonderful gathering spots. The one draw back is the road that runs in front of the property between the house and the river/bay. There is a dock which is excellent for swimming and fishing. Young children would definitely need to be supervised. The transportation, jet skis, private sightseeing and snorkeling boat arranged by Gari Transport ("Gari", I believe his name is Nicholas) were all excellent. He has a jet ski & outboard rental across the road and about 100 yards from the house. He could not have been more helpful. As always, it took us a day or so to settle in but the subtle beauty of the blending of the plantings, many survived, the meandering walkways, the tile work and the architecture itself worked their magic and we were soon feeling comfortable and at home. The Old Town is very beautiful in a beautiful setting on the sea and not too far away. The transportation charges we felt were reasonable and we used them for anywhere we wanted to go, dinner, the Old Town, etc. The boat for our day out exploring the caves and swimming, picked us up at the dock in front of the house. This too was a reasonably priced full day on the water with lunch at a gorgeous island restaurant overlooking the sea. The property is self-catering.
“Unique villa near Dubrovnik”
We stayed at Villa Gradi for 1 week in July and very much enjoyed our time there. The villa is unique, being a former summer residence away from the city and has a fascinating history. The owners family are very welcoming indeed, which included a supper of Croatian dishes on our first evening and a tour of the villa and its amenities and throughout the week the family went out of their way to ensure our stay was as pleasant as possible. Including helping ourselves to vegetables and salad from the gardens! Linens and towels were changed midweek which is a nice. The villa is very old and has lovely terraced gardens, lots of separate seating areas, so you can always find a quiet spot if needed. The infinity pool on the top deck is fabulous with views over the harbour. The villa has many rooms and gardens but spread over 4 levels, so it may not suit families with small children or elderly relatives. The bedrooms are spread out, and some have there own access in an annex, soon again this mat not suit families with small children We were a party of 2 families with teenage children, so the spread out nature of this villa really suited us. It has its own jetty across the road, and when we hired a charter boat the skipper picked us up from the villa jetty- how good is that? The road in front of the villa is busy and there are no pavements, so be very careful when crossing this road. Though the villa is so large the busy road does not detract from it. Dubrovnik is a short drive away, a most beautiful and welcoming city, and very reasonable prices to eat and drink out. All in all a fabulous holiday.
Response from the owner Dear Mrs. Bullivant, Thank you very much on your kind and sincere review! Slavica Stojan, the owner of villa Gradi
“Terrific experience staying at Villa Gradi”
Our 2 week vacation at Villa Gradi was amazing! The villa is beautiful and has every comfort you could ever need. The pool is wonderful having a kitchen and bathroom which makes it very self-contained. One of the major advantages of the villa are the owners, they go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable and recommend things to do that are appropriate for your family. The villa is in front of a busy street but you barely here the traffic while you're in the villa. It is important to note that there are a lot of steps as the beautiful herb and vegetable garden is terraced, and there are stairs to the pool so you need to be able to manage stairs (probably not appropriate for very old or toddlers.) One of the memorable experiences were the fantastic meals that we had at the villa cooked by the family, I highly recommend doing this. We spent 2 weeks at the villa and were very sad to leave, it had a very happy, relaxing feel and we all loved it.
“A fantastic holiday in a beautiful villa”
The Villa Gradi is a beautiful property in a quiet bay just to the north of Dubrovnik. It is situated on the waters edge with a spectacular view of the suspension bridge. The Villa is within easy reach of the city, but secluded enough to be peaceful haven in which to enjoy the tiered gardens and pool. The house is massive with enough rooms to give a large family plenty of space and freedom. The Villa is family owned and they provide a most welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The house is equipped to a very high standard, both in furnishing and household appliances. The kitchen is large and well supplied, which meant we could eat at home without feeling the need to use the local restaurants. A small supermarket was within easy walking distance, where fresh bread, fruit and vegetables could be purchased daily. However the family were very generous and offered fruit and vegetables from the garden. There was a well stocked wine cellar, where the wine could be used on an honesty basis, which was very welcoming. This is a very special property and ideal for large families. As it is built on a hillside it would not be suitable for people with mobility problems or tiny children. We would strongly advise having a hire car as, while it possible to catch a bus into Dubrovnik, it is not within walking distance of the city. In summary, this is a beautiful property owned by a delightful family with a charming atmosphere suited for a family in need of space and privacy in which to spend a relaxing vacation. We would highly recommend Villa Gradi.
“Fantastic villa and city!”
Nine of us arrived in Vila Gradi to a spotlessly clean, beautiful and spacious villa submersed in history. Our hostess showed us around and explained the history of the villa including a lovely welcome meal. There is plenty of room around the huge sitting rooms and kitchens for everyone to have their own space and relax. The pool area is fabulous with a great view of the cruises coming into Dubrovnik. The location is great. We drove into the old town a few times or at night we jumped on the bus that takes around 20 mins. The local restaurant serves lovely fresh food and the staff were great fun. It's only a km down the road. Have to mention the gardens and terraces. The range of flowers, herbs and spices growing are fantastic and the one night we did cook in, we made a beautiful garden salad from the garden. The main kitchen is stocked with all cooking utensils you would need. In the rooms, we were given loads of towels and they were changed for us during the week also. I could not recommend this villa more highly. Our hosts could not have done more for us. Thanks for a great week!
“Petrica's warm welcome set the stage for a wonderful stay that w”
Villa Gradi is owned and operated by the Stojan family who take great pride in their villa. They did everything possible to ensure our stay was memorable. We had three bedrooms for the five of us. The villa was well equipped for self-catering, sleeping accommodations were excellent and common areas were spacious and well decorated. The pool was in a lovely setting and well maintained. There is a sitting, dining pavilion off the salon that provides fantastic viewing of cruise ships entering the Dubrovnik harbour and sailboats in front of the villa. The location is close to public transportation providing easy access to Dubrovnik - a must-see. There is also a terrific local restaurant only a kilometre away for those evenings when you don't want to eat in. One minor point - we suggest a sign outside the villa may help first-time visitors find the villa on arrival.
“Very well situated historic mansion with modern features”
We stayed at Villa Gradi, located near Dubrovnik, with our family and friends at the beginning of September; the hosts, brother and sister Petrica and ante were very welcoming throughout our stay, not only in termes of basic service (indicating the best shops, such as groceres, butchers, and wineries), but provided with insider information on the best places to go and see in and around Dubrovnik. All things considered our stay in their spacious house with a lovely garden and many terraces as well as the view of the Dubrovnik marina was very pleasant. We particularly enjoyed the secluded pool where we spent many happy moments. We can warmly recommend Villa Gradi to all those wishing to visit the area.
