Very Good

“So good, it was a shame we had to leave, even after an extended stay”

Reviewed 22 May 2014

For sure we all had a most enjoyable time. It was a holiday of a lifetime for me and my family. Our stay at Mangoes was like a home from home. Everything was just so convenient, accessible and generally well organized. We just woke up to wonderful weather every day and ENJOYED. We certainly made a good choice in Mangoes and were very sad to leave. Thank you for offering such first class accommodation and facilities.

Response from the owner Hi there, Thanks for this super review, with 5 star ratings for each sub-category and the huge complement; your words - "Thank you for offering such first class accommodation and facilities". Thanks too for the overall rating of 4 stars. There's always room for some improvement isn't there? We're off to Mangoes ourselves very soon to continue our programme of refurbishment and hopefully to catch a bit of holiday too - either way I just love being there. Please come back to us whenever you feel you'd like to re-visit, you'd be more than welcome. Cheerio, Cath.

“Wonderful Barbados villa”

Reviewed 7 Mar 2014

For the past 5 years we have spent the winter months of January, February & March here in Sunset Crest, Holetown, Barbados. The last 2 years here at Mangoes, which meets our every need. Close to beach, beach house, shopping and many restaurants all within easy walking distance. With 3 bedrooms it easily accommodates us and our adult children when they come for a visit. This is our second year here and have already booked for next year.

Response from the owner Hi, So sorry for this late response to your review - I thought I had responded, maybe I clicked something wrong and lost it. It's a really good review and I'm very grateful. It is difficult keeping up with the number of reviews required when guests are so long stay as your good selves. It's helpful for future guests to know that Mangoes is so well situated for all amenities as well as the beach and pool and probably your best compliment to us is the fact that you return year on year for so long. It becomes more enjoyable for us too and it has been rewarding building up an email relationship with you during Jan, Feb and March of 2013 and 2014, even though we have never met! It's good to know we are getting things right for our guests - that's the whole aim after all! Looking forward to resuming our email relationship next time you're in residence! Cheerio, Cath.

“Great place, great location, excellent value”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2013

Spent two weeks at lovely Mangoes with family. The villa is spacious, well appointed with a lovely garden and barbecue area that we made good use of. Bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens excellent. Very clean thanks to the lovely Lucille! Free good wifi connection. Location is a1, within a minute of the supermarket, 2 mins beach, 3 mins Surfside bar and Holetown shops etc. Membership of the Beach Club (2 mins walk), included which has good pool, loungers, bar and beach access. Highly recommended.

Response from the owner Thanks for this very complimentary review and factual snippets - always useful for future guests. I'm glad you had a great time; just reading what you've written makes me realise how much I wish I could be going for a Mangoes-break myself right now. Don't forget to contact us in the future if you'd like another visit, you'll be very welcome indeed. Cheerio, Cath.

“A Wonderful Experience!”

Reviewed 7 Jun 2013

Mangoes is a delightful, well-equipped villa that is literally 2 minutes walk from the beach. In its picturesque setting there are restaurants, bars and shopping a-plenty, as well as a private pool and deck with an excellent attached beachfront restaurant. The weather, of course, is fantastic! This is a place that I would recommend visiting again and again.

Response from the owner Hi there, Thanks for this compact and very positive review. We do get a lot of repeat guests and we find we have a new problem ..... we're beginning to question when we'll be able to stay at Mangoes ourselves - the calendar is filling for 2014 already! That aside, we'd be happy to have you two amongst our regulars, so hurry back! Cheerio, Cath and Ian

“Slightly 'Different' view of ;Mangoes'”

Reviewed 5 May 2013

Firstly Big Thanks to Cath for all your help before we even left home. Mangoes is just Wonderful, and as everyone has said...Everything is spotless clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could want. There are books, games and toys for the children etc etc. The location is Great,,,through the gate across the road..The beach and pool. Turn Right...Supermarket,Bank,Shops.And of course the Lovely Lady Lucille who kept everything so clean and tidy and helped us when she could. But no one has mentioned the garden (Lovingly tended by John),the birds, the peace and quiet...Our First morning we watched the sun come up...magical,we admired the Wonderful flowers...took lots of photos. We watched all the birds, the tiny sparrows who bathed every morning in the ashtray I filled with water, and the humming birds who came in the evenings, the Gekos who came and the monkeys, who we heard but never saw. Mangoes was everything we hoped it would be which helped make our holiday a very 'Magical' time. Will we be back??? If at all possible yes!! Most definitely

Response from the owner Hi there, I must thank you for this lovely review. Many thanks for my personal compliment - I do try to help guests with queries before their holiday and it's nice to hear that it makes people feel comfortable and at home right away. Thanks too for your kind words about our staff; they are truly a Godsend. The garden was probably what made me fall in love with Mangoes when I first saw it, some 10 years ago. It has taken a long time to nurture and coax it into shape and we still have further to go. I enjoy gardening myself and do a bit of snipping, tying up and planting when I can (I'm not much good at digging unfortunately! Need bigger muscles!) I hope you will be able to return to Mangoes, we and the staff would all love to have you back. Cheerio, Cath.

“Our 3 months at Mangoes”

Reviewed 8 Apr 2013

We love Holetown in Barbados and this past winter stayed at Mangoes which made our visit all the better. Mangoes is lose to all amenities: shopping, Beaches, restaurants and banks. Lucille keeps the house sparkling clean and John tends to the grounds. Thank you Cath for such a lovely place, I'm glad we found it. We will be returning.

Response from the owner Thanks so much. I'm so happy to hear when people love Mangoes because I love it so much myself! For me it is the most relaxing place in the world. I'm very glad you'll be returning, I enjoyed our regular communications by email and you will be most welcome. I hope the weather at home is bearable for you after your balmy 3 months in Barbados. Cheerio, Cath.

“Lovely villa and perfect location!”

Reviewed 2 Sep 2012

We had a wonderful stay at Mangoes. We were greeted by Lucille upon arrival. The location is great-2 mins walk to the pool, stunning beach and several restaurants. Another couple of minutes walk takes you to the main area of restaurants, shops etc. There is a bus stop on the main road-we used this a lot in our first week -we hired a car for our second week (we used Stoutes who were good). The villa is spacious and even with 6 of us we had plenty of room. We spent many lovely evenings on the verandah having pre-dinner drinks and listening to tree frogs. We didn't eat in as much as we'd thought as there were so many restaurants that we wanted to try, however, the kitchen is well equipped and modern. Only one small niggle (small enough to still give 5 stars and hope for a return visit!) was the Wifi. Mangoes doesn't have it's own Wifi - you can connect to nextdoor but it's intermittent and you could only get a good connection in the main bedroom. Not a problem if you just want occasional access, but I was planning some surprises for my husbands birthday by email. Recommendations: Restaurants - we liked Zacchios, Café Carisma (Thur for tapas), Roti Den, Paynes Bay for a cheap and tasty meal, Surfside on Sunday night (steel band) and Bombas in Mullins area. The Fishermans Pub does a great bajan buffet lunch with lovely sea views in Speightstown. We didn't get to try the Beach House restaurant as both nights we went it was closed for a private function - it certainly looks nice though! If you're thinking of swimming with turtles look at my review on Cliff Sharker-this trip is awesome! The beach to the left of the pool was always quiet and if you snorkel along the rocks on the right of the beach you'll see an amazing variety of fish. The fish fry in Oistins on Friday is good fun and good value, you can get a bus here. Finally, have a maple and almond ice cream at the beach house (this became a daily treat whenever we were at the pool!)

Response from the owner Hi Tracy and Nigel, Hi again - writing a post script now (April 2013) just to let you know that we DO now have Wifi and I'm glad to say that it works a dream! We've had no problems with it at all. Thanks - very nice review. Glad you liked Mangoes so much and had a great time and we look forward to having you back very soon! Private Wifi is a bullet we haven't bitten yet. We fight a little shy of it as the last "technical installation" we had was the multi-choice TV which, due to Barbados' propensity for a bit of "manyana, manyana", took almost a year of complications to sort out. Difficult when we are 4,000 miles away in England most of the year. Wifi will happen. At the same time, Barbados' wonderful laid-back approach to life makes it such a great place to relax totally on holiday - and it sounds and looks, from the photos, as if that's exactly what you did! Well, that's what it's all about, isn't it? Cheerio, Cath.

“Tropical Bajan Paradise”

Reviewed 30 Jul 2012

I had the pleasure of staying at Mangoes Villa with my spouse, kids and mom for 8 days in July 2012. The villa is absolutely clean, well maintained and beautifully decorated. There are all possible ammenities available for guests including several beach toys for children. It was quite lovely having our breakfast on the front porch with the company of the birds, and for those with children the garden is a wonderful play area for them. The high point of Mangoes is its prime location in the West Coast of the island. There is a supermarket within walking distance of the villa and a calm beach right opposite the property. Zacchios a beach front restaurant is located about three minutes away from the villa and offers some quite tasty meals. Cathryn Mills was always helpful in terms of pre trip questions that I had and quite efficient in replying to emails with full details. Our thanks to Lucille who was so welcoming upon our arrival. Our stay at Mangoes was truly a home away from home! It was with a degree of sadness that we left Mangoes, but I will only say farewell for now as we will definitely make Mangoes our villa of choice on our next trip to Barbados. Cathryn thank you for allowing us to have a fantastic vacation in a tropical garden called Mangoes Villa! I suspect with all of this detail I will have to book well in advance the next time we want to stay at Mangoes Villa.

Response from the owner Hi Allyson, Well, Mangoes is booking very well ahead into 2013, but somehow, I'm sure we'll find a space for you! So glad you enjoyed it all - you love it for all the same reasons as we do. Thanks for this very positive and detailed review, we look forward to hearing from you ..... as soon as you like! Cheerio, Cath.

“A lovely place to stay while enjoying paradise”

Reviewed 27 Mar 2012

The holiday was fantastic and we both had a great time. The owner was thorough and organised with a pre-trip briefing of what to expect and how to prepare for a holiday on the island if you have not been before. All amenties were close by. The beach is a short walk away where you will find many beach front restaurants or bars from which to enjoy the sunsets. Nearby you can catch a local reggae bus going either north or south to explore the many other beautiful beaches and sights along the coast. If you prefer a lazy night in then the local supermarket is nearby and has everything you could want to self cater. Couldn't ask for better!

Response from the owner Goodness me! Here we are in 2014 and I have only just realised that I did not reply to your review almost two full years ago! Don't know how you "slipped though my net" as I always like to throw a little something into the pot and reassure guests that they are welcome back. So, firstly, you would indeed be welcome to come back, please contact us at any time! And, secondly, thanks for your comments. they reiterate exactly what everybody says about Mangoes; it's perfectly placed to access everything you could want whilst on holiday. Can't wait for our own next visit! Thanks again, Cath

“Fantastic all round!”

Reviewed 26 Feb 2012

Second time at Mangoes - back because we like it. Probably go again too! Has everything - good location - large garden - secure - all modern facilities & air con - plently of room and great veranda. The owners take great care and pride in making everything go well. The house is clean and tidy, constantly maintained and updated and the kitchen is a dream with all facilities. There is even a washer and drier in a separate area at the back of the house. The beach nearby is fine for swimming and you can walk up the beach to the Surfside Bar area in five minutes which has everything you would want in a beach. Don't know why I'm telling you all this - I'll probably find it fully booked next time I want to go!

Response from the owner I'm sure we'll find you a slot somewhere because we'd love to have you back.! Thanks for this very good, informative and comprehensive review. We are particularly pleased with the new kitchen, which we finished in record time last year; one day we'll manage to get a holiday there too!
