“A Little Paradise.”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2015

What can I say? All the favourable reviews before ours are accurate. This place is a little oasis within the busy historic district of Quito. My children loved their garden and all the space for them to explore. The rooms were lovely suites with all the comforts of home. We especially enjoyed making our rooms cozy in the evening with their little wood burning fireplaces. The owners are welcoming, helpful and yet unobtrusive. We stayed here at the beginning of our three week trip in Ecuador and at the end. It was by far the best place we stayed in the country.

“Lovely Place, Great Choice - Can't Wait to Come Back”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2014

We stayed in July after a week in the Amazon. There were seven of us - two families with children. We all loved Wantara Suites, and thought it was the perfect place to stay in Quito. The location is terrific - very convenient for exploring old Town Quito - and the setting feels removed, even though it is in a dense neighborhood, because the units all face a beautiful garden and are separated from the street by high walls. But you still get views of the surrounding hills. Wolfgang and Andy are super helpful and friendly. And the suites are beautifully, artfully furnished and decorated, and so well appointed - everything you need for your stay is there (and more). We cooked, lounged, hammocked, played scrabble on the deck, and slept very well. (Great showers too!). In sum, we enjoyed our stay so much that we immediately began scheming as to how and when we could come back.

“Your search is over!”

can we say anything that could take away from the experience of staying at Wantara? maybe the cat, dogs, and street noise in the middle of the night/morning. Andi and Wolfgang have no control over those issues. it's a challenge to come up with something that was not provided or anticipated for our use during our stay in January at the Lagarto suite. The kitchenware was immaculate and new, the knives sharp, a german influenced breakfast was in our fridge along with some beer upon our arrival. Tea, sugar, coffee, necessary appliances, freshly cut garden flowers, plenty of wood for the wood fireplace..every detail was attended to. Andi and Wolfgang were invisible yet present. when we needed anything, they were there for us. They re accustomed to their surroundings and shared their knowledge and love of this beautiful city with us. We feel so fortunate to have spent a perfect holiday at their complex. They are the perfect hosts - kind, humorous,, passionate about what they do, and about life in general. We highly recommend their accomodations to anyone. We would not hesitate to stay there again, and we know you will enjoy your time there. L and L from Winnipeg, Canada

“Our wonderful trip to Quito Ecuador Nov. 2013”

Reviewed 14 Dec 2013

My husband and I are from London Ontario Canada we had never been to Ecuador before. After booking our flights we started our search for a place to stay. We found this place online and emailed them right away. Wolfgang and andi answered us that very day. They were so helpful with idea's etc. They had a driver pick us up at the airport and take us to our new home for a week. This same guy drove us for 7 hours out to there wonderful beach house for our second week and he picked us up the following Sat. and brought us back to our hotel for our last night before we flu back to Canada the next day. These people and many others along the way made our trip wonderful. We can not wait to go back!

“Delightful mini-hacienda in the heart of magical Quito.”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2013

Owners andi and Wolfgang have taken a diamond in the rough and restored it into a shining gem. We were blown away by the beautiful garden and all the colorful flowers. Wantara is private, quite and restful. I loved sitting in the garden with the owners and fellow guests in the early evenings sharing traveler tales. The suite we stayed in was very comfortable and impeccably clean. Wolfgang and andi welcomed us by lighting a fire in the fire place on our arrival. They went above and beyond helping us plan our stay by recommending museums, galleries, churches, vegetarian restaurants... They also helped us with the return of our rental car and getting to the airport. We cooked many of our meals in the suite as the kitchen was well stocked. I can't wait to return!!! Btw: I'm really surprised by the previous negative review by the couple from Chicago. I was there at the same time that they were. They told me so many wonderful things about their long stay at Wantara and it's owners. Wolfgang and andi scheduled a cab to take them to the airport and where there to see them off with a big hug. I'm puzzled. Anyway, go and enjoy this little piece of the past with all the modern accommodations you need!!! Ps You will be walking distance to all Quito has to offer at a very reasonable price.

“Horrible experience”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2013

We didn't enjoy our stay at all. Aside from the bad location, we felt we were always being micro-managed by the owner. The apartment was always cold and not particularly comfortable. We had the luxury suite which we felt was not very luxurious. Comparable suites in better areas were often priced 2-3 times less. It appears that Wolfgang's primary focus was only financial all of the time, and less about the comfort of the tenants.

Response from the owner We are very sorry to read that you had such a horrible experience at our place. It is a real surprise for us, as your overall feedback until the day before you left was so positive. We assume that denying the refund for the last night, that you accidently have had booked made you so angry that the whole experience got that negative aspect. Sorry that we had to insist on our cancellation policy.

“Beautiful apartment & Wonderful Hosts”

Reviewed 20 Jul 2012

Three of us stayed here and we all loved it. Everything from our pickup at the airport to the friendliness of our hosts, Wolfgang and andy and their cat, La-la. The location is a little bit away from the centre of Quito but anyone travelling in Sth america knows how noisy it can be and being a little out of the action means you don't have that constant noise, so it's very quiet here. Also, taxis in Quito are quite cheap ($4 one way to the centre of Quito or ~$2.00 to a major supermarket) plus there's some local corner shops if you need fruit, vegetables, bread etc. We stayed in the Luxury Estrella suite and the detail of the fittings and furnishings are just great as well as the fireplace. Loved the hot water, the coffee plunger and well, just everything. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else if we returned to Quito. Thanks to both of you for having us!

A perfect place for us : a travelling family with two young kids (4 and 9). Our suite, a duplex, was very spacious and very well equipped : bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, living-room with fireplace... Surrounding a beautiful and spacious garden, this suite is highly functional for kids : garden is safe, green and very well arranged : the suite dinning room and terrace overlook the garden. The owners are very helpful and nice. In a nutshell, one of the best place we stayed since we left home 13 months ago.

“Perfect”

We loved our stay at Wantara. It was the perfect location. We were a short walk to historic areas with carriage rides, stunning cathedrals and bustling night life. We felt safe at all times, walked most places and indulged many delicous eateries. We chose the historic district so that we could get a feel of local life. Wantara provided the utmost in luxury & comfort. Our apartment was gorgeous! Three levels, soaring ceilings, beautiful design, tropical gardens, hammocks and an overall sercure feeling. Andi and Wolfgang gave great advise that saved us money and ensured that we enjoyed the best of Quito during our visit. We would actually enjoy living in this apartment for a much longer stay. Maybe next time!!

“Beautiful, peacefull place next to the historic centre of Quito”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2010

Coming from the noisy town I entered into a calm and green patio with the athmosphere of an oasis. The garden is beautifull with the perfume of trees and flowers. The suite is completely furnished with a comfortable bed, livingroom with couch and chairs, kitchen inluding all necessary equipment, bathroom with towels. From the convenient terrace I enjoyed the view over the Pichincha and parts of Quito historic centre. The suite and the whole estate are lovingly decorated with plants and flowers, everything is arranged very tastefully. Excellent service by the owners, who helped in all issues concerning my stay there.
