“Fantastic Vacation with Wonderful Friends”
My husband and I rented II Monaco for 2 weeks in October with 2 other couples. The villa is in Ravello but only a 10 minute walk to the small town of Minori. Minori is a very friendly small village with wonderful restaurants, cafes and small specialty grocery stores with the best produce, seafood, meat, pasta and bread. We actually cooked most of our meals at the villa in the well equipped kitchen and ate out on the beautiful patio with the spectacular view of the coast. We all arrived by train in Salerno and were met by a driver to take us to the Villa. When we arrived we were met by Franco who is the property manager. Franco was fantastic in arranging anything for us. We did arrive later on a Sunday night which meant everything was closed, so he drove us to a takeout restaurant, waited for our order and took us back to the villa. The next day he took us all into town to do some grocery shopping at various locations. He arranged for us to get bus tickets, taxi's and tours. The villa has a wonderful view of the coast from either of the 2 large patio's, from there you can take a path and about 50 to 60 stairs down the hill to the platforms on the sea. The swim platforms have lounge chairs and umbrellas. These are shared with a couple of other villas in the area, but it is a great way to meet new visitors as well. The bedrooms are all spacious with very comfortable beds and every room has a wonderful window or door that opens up to a spectacular view of the sea. The only downfall is the noise level in the large bedroom at the entry level. You can hear the traffic on the coast and sometimes it feels like the cars are driving into the room. If you rent with just 2 couples, the bedrooms on the lower level are much quieter. We choose this villa because it does not have any steps to get into the villa, when you have to lug luggage and groceries it is worth the sacrifice to put up with the noise level. Miss waking up to the view and will be back!!
“Amazing Villa on the amalfi Coast”
We booked this villa solely based on Tripadvisor recommendations and we were not disappointed. Il Monaco is the perfect vacation rental on the amalfi Coast. My husband and I spent 4 nights there with 2 other couples in late april to celebrate my 40th birthday. The villa is technically located in Ravello but is walking distance to the village of Minori. We flew into Rome and Mr. Franco arranged for our transportation from Salerno train station to the villa. The driving is not for the faint of heart and I would not recommend it. The villa is spotless and has breathtaking views of the Bay of Salerno. We enjoyed coming back to the villa every night to enjoy our wine and limoncello on the very private patio. We had our own little lemon grove and beautiful sundeck. Each of the 3 roomy bedrooms has a spectacular view of the water and comfortable beds. The kitchen is fully equipped and we cooked breakfast every morning and enjoyed our coffee on the patio. The wi-fi worked fine. There are 2 bathrooms but only one shower in the house so if you are a large party, you might need to use the outdoor shower. You do have to get used to opening the front door directly into the street but the drivers on those crazy roads are careful and it was all part of the adventure! We enjoyed the quiet but quaint little village of Minori. The next day, we bravely hiked the 1,200 steps up to Ravello. It was absolutely worth it. A visit to the Hotel Caruso is not to be missed. We took a driver to La Taglieta, high on the hill overlooking Positano, where we had the best homemade pasta. Positano is worth the visit for shopping and people watching. On our last day, Mr. Franco arranged for a private boat to pick us up on our dock and take us to Capri for the day which was the highlight of our trip. We had such an amazing experience at Il Monaco. Anna made the booking experience smooth and easy and Mr. Franco was always available to us. Simply amazing vacation!
“A dream vacation at Il Monaco”
Il Monaco is well situated on the coast road with beautiful views of the sea and coast from every room. It is spotlessly clean, well equipped and beautifully decorated. The beds are extremely comfortable. We arranged for Mr. Franco to pick us up at the Salerno train station and he was there when we arrived. After taking us to Il Monaco he offered to take us to a supermarket in Maori to stock up. This was a great help to us. This was the third leg of our trip to Italy and intended for rest and relaxation. Il Monaco served us well. We also had easy access to the other towns on the amalfi coast as well as a day trip to Pompeii..I would go back again any time!
“Amazingly wonderful stay in a gorgeous spot”
Il Monaco is a superb house, in perfect condition, with amazing views and a most comfortable and homely feel, in a stunning location. The house was super-well equipped, with a great kitchen, in which we enjoyed preparing meals with awesome local produces over a splendid view of the bay. Not a single thing to complain about at all. The outdoor space is perfect, and the deck by the sea out is of this world. The location near Minori is fantastic as well to go grocery shopping for local vegetables and fish, cold cuts... All in all, a perfect stay in a perfect spot. We will most surely come back to enjoy the Costiera! Franck
We stayed at the villa for a week. We were stunned by the incredible views and gorgeous decor - also the villa was spotless when we arrived. We couldn't ask for more - perfect location a ten minute walk to minori which is a quaint little town with lovely cafes restaurants and beach. We also enjoyed the platform to the sea for sunbathing and swimming. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend. Many thanks !
“A great relaxing week in a beautiful villa”
We had a fantastic week on the amalfi coast. Il Monaco is a perfect base. Everything about it was lovely from the cool fresh bedrooms to the stunning views! Having the swimming platform was also great. We would like to say a big thank you to Franco who looks after the property for anna for all his help as it took away any stress for us. Franco picked us up from the airport and drove us to Minori via the beautiful scenic coast road. We had 2 wonderful trips to Capri by speed boat and Pompeii by air conditioned bus. He also helped us organise these trips with his local knowledge. The boat even picked us up from the swimming platform. The town of Minori was lovely with fantastic restaurants and cafes. It has a very friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We walked to Ravello via the steps along a bit from the villa which was amazing and took about 1 hour. The views from there are stunning. We would love to come back maybe at cooler time to do some more exploring. On the return journey to the airport Franco took us a different which takes a little longer via the mountains which open up to reveal the Bay of Naples which was breathtaking.
Il Monaco is a beautiully maintaned Villa. Very comfortable, beautiful views, excellent location to the very charming town of Minori. Spacious bedrooms, with very quiet air conditioner units and good sized, well stocked kitchen. I travelled with my husband, 2 sons, and daughter-in-law and we all loved our stay. I am most grateful to owner anna for all her help with this trip. She was even kind enough to secure our train tickets for me when I had difficulty online. And she helped me secure driver arrangements with Mr. Franco who was also very helpful and welcoming. I would strongly recommend this Villa. There are beautiful terraces to choose to relax and sunbathe. There are many steps down to the beautiful deck -the Mediterranean is beautiful and warm - but the hike up and down is very much worth the trip. I also appreciated having the laundry out on the lower deck. Very convenient. We loved Il Monaco, the people, Minori, Ravello. We hope to return.
We came here for the 2nd half of our honeymoon (after Tuscany) - what a place! It would be incredibly difficult to beat the views and outdoor space. From the terraces covered in lemon groves to the path to the sea and swimming deck, it has it all. The villa was immaculate and well outfitted with everything we needed. We had never heard of Minori before coming, and were really happy with the town. There was much more going on than we'd imagined, including 5-10 good restaurants (be sure to visit antonio at Bar of the Midnight Sun, Osteria Il Poiinte was another favorite), some shops, grocery store, etc. Just be sure to check the hours of the grocery store. We got stuck a few days without groceries because we went first on a Sunday (Closed) and then again after it had closed or during the long lunch break. It was an easy walk to town for dinner, but you have to be careful walking as the roads have no shoulder and cars come around the corner fast. On that note, we brought our car, and were happy to have the free parking right at the villa, but left it for the entire week. Driving on the amalfi coast is a nail-biting experience at best! We opted for the bus when we wanted to go anywhere other than Minori. Minori is in a great location for visiting other towns. We hiked the steps to Ravello one day, took a bus to Positano another day, and took a bus to amalfi then ferry to Capri another day. The only issue we had was internet - we paid in advance to use the wifi and brought only our ipad and iphones, only to get an email when we were already on our way that the wifi only worked with laptops. Anna had said she'd maybe leave a laptop for us to use, but there wasn't one. I sent an email to anna but still haven't gotten refunded despite not being able to use the internet. All in all though, that was a small problem compared to how much we loved the villa and its grounds and location. We hope to come back someday with a family or a bunch of friends!
We stayed at Il Monaco after 4 nights at La Clarissa, Anna's other property just down the road. Let me tell you, this place was breathtaking! It was just two of us, so far more room than we could ever need (or use!), but we felt like kids in a magic castle. The beautiful frescos and gorgeous antiques in the master bedroom helped! The giant country kitchen was a great place to make dinner, and the series of verandas/terraces were the spot to enjoy the stunning views. The lemon tree may have been my favorite part, although spending time with a glass of wine down on the dock was a close second. We loved having the run of the place, but this would also be an ideal spot for three couples, as the bedrooms each offered a great deal of privacy and the common space was more than enough room to share. I am already trying to round up friends to go back!! The village of Minori was amazing ... we liked it a million times more than Ravello. Ravello was great, but for us Minori felt so much more authentic - people were so incredibly friendly (by week's end, we'd made friends with several folks!) and the restaurants/food were amazing. Anna and Oscar could not have been better, either - they are charming and generous and so kind. They had great restaurant recommendations too! I relied almost exclusively on Trip advisor and Flip Key to plan this vacation and these reviews helped a ton ... trust me when I tell you, it would be impossible not to fall in love with this place (and with anna for bringing it to all of us!) go!!
“A true taste of Italy!”
Place is exactly as described. Anna was a pleasure to deal with. The care taker was more than helpful. Excellent location. Very clean and in meticulous condition. Thank you very much!
