“Cozumel Home away from Home”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2013

There are many places to stay in Cozumel but having your own house with spacious bathrooms and bedrooms plus a normal kitchen and living room is much more comfortable than any hotel and you don't share with a lot of unknown new friends. That sets Casa de Paz apart from ordinary lodging and unless you are a tourist in Cozumel for a week or two, why wouldn't you want a home for travelers, not tourist. This place was perfect. Our deck was on the second floor and our edge of town location allowed us the serenity of the jungle without bugs and beautiful evenings sun sets. We had a birds eye view of parrots, iguanas, and a number of other exotic birds that would land in trees just off our deck. The house has two bedrooms which are exactly the same spacious size and two wonderful shower in the good sized bathrooms. When anything around the house gave us problems, Margaret and her management team would resolve issues within a very short period of time. We enjoyed our experience so much that we have already booked Casa de Paz for three months next year and we are cyclist not divers, but we do snorkel daily. The house also has a rinse bath outside for divers. The house is situated a few blocks from two very large grocery stores. The Caribbean is about four blocks away. There are a number of great restaurants within walking distance and you would seldom need a car at Casa de Paz. For cycling you would be hard pressed to find a better location and mode of transportation. The house is in the newest housing district in Cozumel but it's actually on a dead end street and, consequently, very quiet. For price and value this place can't be beat. A month of lodging here is probably cheaper than a week in most hotels on the island and by far better unless maybe you live in a hotel at home and I doubt it.

“What a wonderful month”

My wife and I had the best vacation ever. This was mostly due to Cozumel, but our stay could not had been as good without Casa de Paz. If you get a chance to stay in Casa de Paz, take it. Your trip will be even better. This is a very comfortable two bedroom, two bath. The jungle is your next door neighbor. I felt very safe during my stay.

“Casa de Cielo is more like it!!”

This is a great place to stay and very reasonable. No, it's not on the beach, but it's in a good neighborhood that's very quiet (even if we weren't). The condo next door is often empty and on the other side is nature - no buildings. Very nice. It has all the amenities you could want, plus! The veranda is particularly nice - a great place to start your morning with a cup of coffee and some pastry. We rented a car so we could do the whole island and the parking is right in front so it was very handy. But we didn't need it for lots of stuff - Chedraui (major grocery, et al store), the beach, great local restaurants, Margaritaville and lots more is in easy walking distance. We really appreciated the binder they keep with recommendations for good local restaurants, beaches, etc. We referred to it every day and they know their stuff. Not a single disappointment! The condo is clean, well equipped, nicely furnished with a real island feel to it. One day our car wouldn't start and we couldn't reach the rental place, so we called alex and he handled it for us. Nice, nice service. My recommendation - go, enjoy, relax and don't worry about a thing!!

“can't wait to return”

Located in a safe, quiet neighborhood, this clean, comfortable and relaxing home is walking distance to grocery store, downtown, restaraunts, and bars. You can also catch an inexpensive cab ride if you prefer not to walk. The property managers are knowledgeable about the area, very helpful and quick to reply to requests and questions. I would definitely stay again, and recommend this property.

“Great townhouse with lots of room.”

Great townhouse at the end of town in Cozumel. Lots of room and very comfortable. Only 3 blocks to the main grocery store and the water.

“Captivating Cozumel!”

Reviewed 30 Nov 2009

Although my time was less than a week at Casa Paz, the location of the house was ideal for enjoying convenient access to markets, shops, services, restaurants, and the town's main center, which has unforgettable music and entertainment not to be missed on Sunday nights. Yet, the house is just far enough away to avoid the noise and distractions of traffic and pedestrians. In short, the house allows for a maximum feeling of peace and a minimum of distance away from everything anyone could ever want or need. Casa Paz is as its name says--no false advetisement here! If anything, I wish I had booked more nights, and perhaps in the future, I shall do exactly that and make up for all those nights I should have stayed my first time to the island.

“Peaceful Easy Feeling in Cozumel”

Reviewed 24 Nov 2009

I would like to share my experience with you about my stay at Casa De Paz. For one, it was far enough from the downtown that we did not hear all the city noise, yet close enough to be able to walk to store and shops, plus the beach was maybe 2-3 blocks (10 minutes) at most. The water is crystal clear and so blue! Sunday night we walked to the square and joined the locals and other tourist for some live salsa music, which we understand is every Sunday night. It was great to have the amenities of a full kitchen to cook if we liked, plus washer and dryer (I preferred to dry my clothes on the clothes line) that was upstairs. This is where we had our pan "sweat bread" and coffee in the mornings and sometimes spot one of the beautiful iguanas that sun on the wall surrounding the home. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable, plus 2 bathrooms, Yea! I also was impressed with the cupboard that was full of board games and cards for the nights we liked to stay in and a complete library of movies from kid’s movies to good dramas for adults. I personally don't dive, yet, but the house has a dive and snorkel gear rinse tank in the front and hooks to hang your gear in the back yard. I would recommend Casa De Paz as your next vacation rental cuz for the price, no hotel can give you all that.

“Good location, in need of a little TLC”

Reviewed 24 Nov 2009

Stayed at Casa Paz for a week in November 2009. The home is conveniently located a couple of blocks off the water, a 5-minute walk to Chedraui (grocery store) and about 10 minutes to downtown. It's right at the end of the street, with the upper deck overlooking undeveloped jungle, so it was nice and quiet. We were there as Hurricane Ida was brushing past Cozumel, and there were a couple of days when the rain was coming down hard. While many streets in Cozumel were flooded with rainwater, the street access to the condo was flooded with a combination of rainwater and sewage about a foot deep. While the smell on the street was horrific, thankfully none of the odor was noticeable in the home. Casa Paz is a large, two-bedroom unit, with 3 split-air units (1 in each bedroom and one in the main living area). The washer and dryer are on the upper level, just off the entrance to the large upper deck. The kitchen itself was quite usable, but the utensils, pots and pans are sparse and a little tired: a couple of hundred dollars spent re-equipping the kitchen would be money well spent. We came to Casa Paz after two weeks in a spanking-clean condo near the Southern cruise ship dock, and were a little disappointed that this home seemed to be suffering from a less rigorous maintenance schedule. During our stay, the musty odor we were greeted with upon entering the the home never dissipated, and there was some mold growing on one of the walls in the upstairs bedroom. Overall, there was general evidence that the ongoing challenge of staying ahead of the effects of humidity in Cozumel wasn't being addressed as aggressively as it could be. We did have a problem with the air conditioners not working when we arrived, and a maintenance person arrived to have a look within a half hour. The problem was diagnosed as malfunctioning remote controls, and we had to manually activate the units by climbing up on a chair and switching them on and off manually throughout our stay.

Response from the manager We wanted to take this opportunity to respond to the concerns expressed in this review. Several updates have been made to the home since Nov 2009. 1) Re the drainage problem. The city water authority has improved the drainage system on the street outside the home, and is scheduled to make more major repairs in 2011. Drainage problem exists mainly during the rainy season (Oct-Nov), during heavy storms. 2) Re the kitchen utensils and pots / pans. The owners have recently purchased all new equipment to replace both the worn equipment and to add more equipment. 3) Re the effects of humidity. The home now has a large dehumidifier that runs daily. The dehumidifier leaves the house smelling fresh, and prevents any mold from appearing on wood surfaces. 4) Re remotes for air conditioners. All air conditioning units work well and have individual remotes. We hope this addresses all the issues expressed in this review. Please feel free to contact us with any future concerns.

“ahhh, vacation!!”

Reviewed 19 Oct 2009

Everything you need to enjoy a lovely, relaxed vacation. Although not right on the beach, it's within a 5 minute walk and another 5 minutes will get you some great snorkeling. It's an even shorter walk to Chedraui, a supermarket with anything and everything. Casa de Paz is at the end of a short street, so it's very quiet. The dive rinse is a real help when returning from the beach. And the huge terrace upstairs is a wonderful place to enjoy your morning coffee. The owners have furnished the place simply and beautifully. It contains all the perks, plus a guide to some really good, really fun, reasonably priced restaurants. This is a great place to stay and for the price, there's no better deal to be had on Cozumel!!

“Casa de Paz...the only place to stay”

Reviewed 23 Sep 2009

We have a small group that has been going to Cozumel at least one to two times a year for the past seven years and have always stayed in one particular hotel..well, not anymore...not after staying in this fantastic house. We have now stayed in Casa de Paz on our last two trips and hope to do so each and every time we travel to Cozumel from here on out. We stayed a little over a week each time, once in October 2008 and at the end of March 2009. Casa de Paz was absolutely incredible and exactly what we were looking for. You couldn't ask for a better location. Far enough away from the hustle-and-bustle to be quiet, peaceful, and relaxing, but close enough for just a quick scooter ride or walk into town. There are now two large stores, one being the enormous new grocery store, stocked with everything you might need close enough to walk to or take a very short ride to. Being back in a neighborhood, our group commented how staying in Casa de Paz actually made us feel like we lived there. Of course, it doesn't hurt that it was just a quick hop over to the marina either if you plan on scuba diving. It is great to be able to stop by the house after diving to drop off gear, get cleaned-up, and then head out for lunch...or just grab something at the house and take a nice nap. Those are all options we were missing when we were staying in hotels. The house is incredible on the inside and the outside with all of the amenities we needed, then some. Very well-kept, nicely decorated, a washer and dryer, and flat screens in both bedrooms. With a full stocked kitchen we had breakfast before diving then had the option later of eating out or just fixing something there at the house. The house also has a dive rinse tank, drying lines, and hooks in the back for your scuba gear. Last, but certainly not least, Margaret and the management company were fantastic. She was always available if we needed anything and went above and beyond to make sure that we were taken care of.
