Description from owner

Description

Great award winning site for those who seek to retreat into the provence countryside. Ideal as a Winter sun break as well as a very popular Summer R&R destination (sold out every year). Ideal for couples traveling together, larger families and the more sophisticated traveler who expects more than a rental shell.

Main Description :
Enjoy sunshine, peace and tranquillity in this award winning historical country farm house located in 30 hectares (75 acres) of private parkland in the heart of Provence, with a pool overlooking the valley

This three-bedroom stone house is tucked away on a small hillside in the hamlet of La Colle in the heart of Provence. There are only three properties in La Colle, so guests can forget all the stress of city life and relax in a tranquil natural environment, filled with birdsong and the buzz of bees. La Colle is surrounded in all directions by prairie, forest, lavender fields, and scented shrubs, overlooked by the 10x4.5 metre pool.

La Colle was built over 400 hundred years ago, and is an excellent example of a traditional Provençal farmhouse. The same owner also runs the neighbouring gîte, Galileo, which has received the coveted Five Globes Award from World One Call, a private holiday referral service, which gives an excellent indication about the quality of this property and it has received 4 golden Olives on it's own account.

As the property is accessed by a narrow country lane, it is not recommended that guests bring sports cars or caravans see main European site for details.

Response from the owner Thank you very much for your kind words and for coming to La Colle. I was very happy to help you as I am used to being in strange lands and a little local help is always of an assistance, especially as you both came from Australia. I hope you both continue your global discoveries with great success.

Response from the owner It is so nice to have you stay and live in the house the way it was meant to be. A real family home. Seeing you explore and learn about the area over the past four months has been a real pleasure. The way you adapted to the vagaries of the weather this year and the surprises of country living has been fantastic. For you to be able to call The Main House your “home” says everything and justifies the years of continuous work. Thank you, and I will miss the daily football matches in the yard.

“An Idyllic Provencal Escape”

Reviewed 31 Jan 2013

My husband, my 18 month old daughter and my in laws travelled to this beautiful place in September for a last taste of sunshine before our move to Canada. What a little piece of heaven. We were lucky in that we had the entire place to ourselves. It's remoteness added to its appeal and we felt we had the best of both worlds. We managed to see and do many of the things in the area and the only difficulty was deciding whether to explore another beautiful part of the countryside or spend the day relaxing by the pool. There is plenty to keep you busy should you decide to hibernate, with a little library, great children's games and toys for our little toddler, wi fi, tv etc. On that note I would like to say how accommodating Rod was with regards to our little one. He arranged for all the baby gear to be shifted to the Main House for our use. We didn't need to worry about a high chair, cot or toys. Anyone travelling with littlies knows what a difference this makes. There are also some lovely walks in the area and you do feel completely away from it all. We met Bob who lives on the property and we had some wonderful discussions and really enjoyed his company. He has a wealth of knowledge. Access to the property does require a bit of an adventurous spirit but we certainly did not let it ruin our trip and saw quite a bit of wildlife whilst driving back and forth. If you want to party on the town every night then I wouldn't recommend it but if you want a little place where you can relax in the peace and quiet, enjoy the sounds of nature at night and feel away from the hustle and bustle of city life then this is a great choice. I remember our time there with such fond memories and only wish the time hadn't passed so quickly.

Response from the owner Thanks very much for your kind words. I am glade that you were able to relax so much after the stress of preparing the move to Canada, especially with a new little one. Having raised my youngest here from two years old, I fully understand parents needs and many families have found this to have been an advantage to them. I have now bought two car seats for the main family vehicle so that it will help during any transfers if the 4×4 is used. Just another little detail which could help. Wishing you the best with your new life.

“Beautiful house in nspoilt wild Provence with amazing views close to nature”

Reviewed 6 Jan 2013

I took my family here from North Scotland in August. Not being put off by the loan of a 4x4 to access the beautiful house, we set off along a typical rural french hill track, spotting Roe Deer, Rabbits and Jays in the fields and oak forests along the way. It was a great adventure for my two little girls aged 6 and 4. We spent our days lazing by the gorgeous swimming pool watching birds of prey soaring or flocks of bee eaters flitting overhead. We took day trips to the surrounding area to see Roman remains, parks andGeological museums. We went kayaking and boating and had a wonderful time. The house has a great vaulted ceiling livingroom which remained cool through the very hot days and our kids loved to play in here when it got too hot. It was a beautiful room to have. Of course the house had all the trimmings of a modern house in the way of internet and flat screen tv but wanting to be really away from all the modern things, we never switched them on! The house was very comfortable and had everything in it that we could possibly want. We had a nice little hamper when we arrived from the owner and a lovely bottle of wine which went down very well watching the sunset over an amazing panorama. I would really recommend this to people who have a spirit of adventure (just a little is required), for people who understand and love the countryside and all that comes with being in the real countryside. People who like wildlife and stunning views of scots pine and oak forests on mountains as far as you can see. There is a chance of seeing wild boar and deer as well as a multitude of other creatures. Go on do it!!

Response from the owner Thanks for being a guest that understands the purpose of putting a quality property in the middle of nowhere, yet is still accessible to all that Provence has to offer, from impressive cities to vast lakes. The step through the doorway needs, as you say, just a little courage but once taken becomes a natural path. A path that can reward you with outstanding beauty plus a chance to wind down and resource. For those of us that are high performers this is especially valuable.

Response from the owner I am sorry that you now feel this way, especially since I received such a complimentary email from your partner and a lovely note in the guest book from another member of your party. We are not responsible for maintaining the French road system, yet we appreciate that as this is the entrance to the hamlet we try to support it. The two free 4×4s are provided to assist you, as storms tend to wash away repairs each year. The 5000€ spent this year only covered the first half of the route and yet it is still feasible and many guests have used their own cars. The 15€ /£12 charged for petrol goes directly into the tank to ensure that the next guest has sufficient for their stay. We share the countryside with a multitude of species, each year at least two different species are prominent. We market this property as “a lost in the countryside Farmhouse in 75 acres of grounds”. I am surprised that you did not also see: deer, wild boar, a multitude of rare birds and owls who love the odd country mouse. The cleaning fee, paid directly to the cleaners, is our way of ensuring that they do their jobs properly : so that they make the beds, put out flowers, set up the free welcome packs, chill the water and milk, put out the wine & glasses plus other items and ensure that the large number of initial starter products are available to the property. All of the above and much more is detailed in our main European site which is linked to every main correspondence with you, prior to and during your booking, including the link on this web site. The main site also has positive quotes from many guests of the past 12 years verifiable in hand written guest books. The price charged for the one week in the high season is directly related to the cost of 12 months needed to sustain the property. This is “very subjective”. We have had many return guests and those that wished to stay longer. The past few years of continuous “desperation sales” and “two for one” offers has created unrealistic low prises resulting in many concerns going out of business. We are sorry that our continuous efforts have not pleased you.
