“Relax & recharge”

Reviewed 7 Feb 2011

We had been spending a lot of time trying to decide where to go on our second honeymoon. After searching a lot and spending loads of time and effort we settled to go to Emerald Trail, Bhimtal and I am glad to say that all our efforts were richly rewarded. The stay was fabulous and charming to the core. Its a tranquil place, where you can actually hear the birds chirping. Emerald trail is in the lap of nature and it took us a couple of days to getting used to sleeping, without any background noise as we hear in Delhi. The home itself is simple and elegant. Even though our host was out of town because of some work, the household staff made us feel as if it was our own home. The amenities are nice and just as one would have at in ones own home. The best part was Roosie and her 5 puppies. They were simply adorable, lovable...mmm. If you want a nice, cozy little holiday, then I would definitely recommend Emerald Trail. I intend to return there again.

“a great place to unwind”

a wonderful place to spend with your family and pets. The host Sumit and leena were like family . the staff were courteous, helpful all time. the ambiance and fireplace gave a feeling of the true homestay. Food was wonderful with invitation to participate. Being close to nature and enjoying the winter chill , walks in the wood and cycling was an added climax. A place to be for nature lovers. Malini and me will plan another trip with the children.

“A perfect family getaway : Emerald Trail”

Reviewed 20 Jul 2010

We went to Emerald Trail, Jungalaigaon in June this year. It was one of the loveliest holidays for our entire family including our golden retriever, Zo :). Emerald Trail is probably one of the few places in India where pets are welcome at par with the humans! Emerald Trail is a perfect destination for those looking to get away from the urban madness – the tranquil environment is what we looked for and it fit the bill completely! Long walks, pleasant weather, unhurried and relaxed time was the hallmark of our trip. It was truly a home away from home with home-style food, simple, comfortable and clean rooms, cups of tea and snack when you ask. It was wonderful to see the earnestness amongst the staff (Lalit, Kailash and others) to make our stay pleasant and nice. Among the inhabitants of Emerald Trail, Rusi, the dog was our favourite. She was entertaining and pure fun. Our young daughter and Zo got along with Rusi like house on fire! It was a joy to see them roll, play and have endless amounts of fun. The cow, Bachchri, the hens and the fishes added to the farm touch – we personally love these and long to be in such surroundings. The word Homestay in Emerald Trail is perfect because for us it felt we were at home amidst the hills in some fabulous weather and were totally chilled out!! Sumith – you have done an fabulous job and we look forward to going back to Emerald Trail soon!

“Fantastic experience and a great trip”

Sumith, I just want to thank you for making the trip a memorable one. Would also like to thank Lalit and Kailash who would cook dinner, lunch and breakfast and that delicious chicken. The property is at an amazing location and all the stuff we did, e.g., cycling, trekking and an unforgettable party made it a great experience. It was a great vacation and it was a fun one because of all of you.Hope we can do another family trip next year

“A weekend in hospitable Wildnerness”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2010

Just the other day on a work trip to Mumbai i came across the Travel Plus...having a flair for travelling to new places i always read travel magazines. My husband and I were looking for a weekend getaway ...just an escape from the scorching heat in Delhi ! So there it was... a quick guide and description to Jungaligaon - Bhimtal. Absolutely the retreat that we were fantasising about. Sumith Dutta (Owner of Emerald Trail) was just a call away... and from that day till the day of our arrival to ET Sumith took care of all our tiny little requirements. The trip is still fresh in my mind- from the time we landed in Kathgodam to the scenic drive to Jungaliagaon...to the beautiful biological built of ET, the Hospitable welcome by the staff... our wooden ceiling naturally lit up room...the mountain bike on which we went cycling and felt back like back to school and the nature walk in the morning was like icing on the cake (chocolate cake)! Thank u ET for the pristine weekend...

“A tranquil Repose”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2010

This one's for total 'holidayers'! By holiday, i mean not doing nothing. Our stay was for a month. We did only explore the wilderness behind us, the village besides us, the valley below us and by the time we belonged the holiday was over. There's so much to see, feel and flavour that you wouldn't budge from the place. The stay has the best view of the valley; ambiance, inside and outside to savour all day long. The lovers of outdoors, which we were, with 6yr and 3yr old kids, cycled, trekked and just lazed around the pine covered hills. The sheer beauty of the wilderness is still untouched by the nearby 'tourism' 's side effects. The nearby villages and the villagers remind you of the social stratiform. The vegetation around, the endemic seasonal fruits were the price we received for our stay at the Trails.

“In the lap of Emerald Trail”

Reviewed 27 May 2010

There's are two ways of enjoying a holiday; one, you lock yourself out of the world and experience solitary bliss; two, you go with your friends and party silly, enjoy conversations and find yourself completely surrounded with those whom you love. But what if you want to strike a perfect balance between the two? That's when you head to Emerald Trail, a homestay which not only allows you to enjoy time with your friends, but also lets you enjoy nature at its best. Surrounded by mountains, Emerald Trail is -- thankfully -- slightly away from the maddness of the 'touristy' Nainital and nestled further away in a place called Junglia Gaon. A cosy homestay, it's a place that gives you comfort and lets you enjoy uninterrupted view of the mountains, fresh air, gorgeous walks in the fields that pass through village homes. It's a place where you can casually chat with the owner, the young Sumith Dutta, play with Rusi, the lovely dog that Dutta's adopted, ask for endless cups of tea, sit outside on a fullmoon light with a bonfire for company, read, sing... the options here are limitless. If you still want a shot of Nainital, Emerald Trail will arrange for the cab and let you explore the hillstation. But trust us, enjoy the pace of Emerald Trail. At a time when we're busy chasing markets and careers even as temperatures soar, Emerald Trail is a place where you'll pause to take note of a lot of things; the first rays of the sun, the vibrant colours of the many flowers, the butterflies, Rusi chasing butterflies, Bachri (a calf that Dutta miraculously rescued after it was hit by a truck) and her innocent looks, the view of the mountains, the gentle slap of the wind on your face, the clouds and much more... And just in case you (or your family/friends) start missing the crowds, well, Nainital, less than 40-45 minutes away, is always an option to consider. Do stay at Emerald Trail. Afterall, very few places on earth alolow you to enjoy nature at its best.

“Excellent place for a break, rest and relaxation”

Reviewed 27 May 2010

Emerald Trail is an excellent place if you're looking for a break and some serious rest and relaxation. Set in the Kumaon hills, it is a very functional and neatly done up place. It is easily reached by a late afternoon or an overnight train (safer) from Delhi to Kathgodam and from there an hour's car ride from Kathgodam, The place has a terrific view of the valley and while I say good for rest and relaxation, it does not mean there's no activity possible. Long leisurely walks, bicycle rides or a drive (through hired cabs) to nearby places of interest like Saat-taal, Nainital, Naukuchyatal and of course Bheemtaal are possible. All in all, worth going, more than once.
