“Heaven on Earth”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2014

We just returned from a week at Tore A Mare and we can’t quit thinking about it. Truly a wonderful quaint vacation home. Beautiful view and the house was very clean. We had espresso on the balcony each morning while listening to church bells and watching boats go by.The local market, Tutto per Tutti, was close and had everything we needed. Beautiful veranda to have a meal on or to just relax. I would highly suggest getting your legs in shape before going. You walk everywhere and town is about one mile away but it is an easy and scenic walk. There are approximately 350 steep stairs plus paths to get to/from the beach. The plus side is you can eat and drink a lot because you are working it off! We never had a bad meal and the restaurants were very reasonable and the people were great. We really enjoyed il Pirata and Albergo Ristorante. Would highly recommend hiking the Path of the Gods (about 3 hours) and taking a bus into Amalfi and doing a boat ride to Positano and Capri. We spent three days in Rome after Praiano and all wished we had stayed at Torre A Mare longer.

“Gentle, pleasant in every way”

This lovely villa in gentle, beautiful Praiano was the reunion spot for my family, May 29 - June 5, after my husband's six-month tour in afghanistan. We wanted a quiet and beautiful place to get to know each other again - kids, 10 and 12 - and have adventures at our own pace. It was exactly what we'd hoped. The wonderful: Ed and Tony, the key-keepers; the view; the terraces; the locals; the location - If you must leave Praiano (but really, it doesn't get lovelier, only more crowded), Amalfi and Positano are short rides away; Capri an easy ferry ride. Easy access to Path of the Gods. Really clean and pretty villa, though not new. Perfect for four. Six would be tight, but doable. Steps not a big issue, except for those who need handicapped access or have a double stroller. Tutto per Tutti, the grocery store, is a short walk and has nearly everything you need - also, it's the meeting place for locals! Bad: I am having trouble thinking of anything bad! I guess the beds were a little hard. Lack of wifi was the closest we saw to an inconvenience, but there are hotels within a few minutes' walk that will let you use theirs for the price of a cappuccino. So, not really an issue. Best: We are not Italian or Catholic, but if you are there on a Sunday, you'll hear lots of people singing from somewhere on the cliff. Turns out the weekly Sunday Mass is on *the roof* of Tutto per Tutti, sea in the background! It's followed by a procession through town; walkway lined with candles and flowers. That was a true highlight, even though we didn't understand a word of the service! After six days at Torre a Mare, we went to Rome, which was a blast. But my heart remains in Praiano - where the air smells like jasmine and it's all about the senses. I highly recommend Torre a Mare and will never forget it.
