Description from owner
Description
Marmaduke Cottage is in the lovely small village of Sancton on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. This delightful cottage has been sympathetically restored retaining many of its original features including exposed beams and its charming characterful features, the quarry tiled floors and cast iron fire range. Furnished in a country cottage style as befitting a cottage of this age and character, it offers an excellent base to explore the Wolds.
The cottage offers one double and one single bedroom and its cottage style bathroom with bath, wash basin and toilet.
Marmaduke Cottage was built around 1820 and has steep cottage stairs.
The kitchen offers an excellent range of facilities, washing machine, fridge/freezer, electric oven/hob and microwave. With its reclaimed pine cupboards and Belfast sink, this cottage offers a true cottage holiday.
The cottage no longer has a real fire due to recent rules on fuel.
The beautiful and peaceful village of Sancton sits in a hollow on the western slope of the glorious Yorkshire Wolds some 9 miles from the bustling and vibrant town of Beverley.
Commanding a sweeping view of the village is the lovely 15th century church of All Saints, featuring a three stage octagonal tower and lantern roof. Marmaduke Cottage derives its name from the staunch Royalist Sir Marmaduke Langdale a famous General for Charles 1.
Marmaduke Cottage is a perfect base if you just want to relax ,follow one of the National Trails on the Wolds Way or explore the wonderful city of York. The many market towns of the Wolds offer a wide choice of entertainment and some of the finest dining experiences.
Marmaduke Cottage offers a cosy and welcoming stay in a truly country cottage from the roses and lavender in the garden to the open fire in the original cast fire place. The oak beams and quarry tiled floor are the character of this cottage giving the guests a warm and big Yorkshire Welcome.
Maybe you just want to enjoy the countryside: the cottage is listed on the Yorkshire Wildlife site as a member of the Puffin Nature Triangle, this site lists all the nature trails and events in the area.
We offer information on walks in the area and nature reserves to watch the wildlife which vary with the seasons. The cottage is part of the Wolds Way a chance to view the Vale of York or look for miles on a clear day in all directions.
We offer short breaks from 2 nights.
