Description from owner

Description

Hope Cottage is a beautiful 18th Century detached property in the hillside village of France Lynch in the South Cotswolds. Sitting in its own private south-facing garden, this romantic cottage has wonderful views across the valley, with excellent walking and plenty of interesting places to visit. The cottage is newly refurbished and combines period charm - oak beams and exposed stone walls - with modern conveniences. On sunny evenings nothing can beat sitting out in the garden, or watching the birds fly down the valley from the upstairs picture window in the large landing area, while downstairs the woodburner keeps the chill away on winter evenings. There is a great little pub at the end of the lane and numerous others within easy reach. The towns of Cirencester and Stroud - with its famous Farmers Market - are within a 15 minute drive, and other local attractions include the Rococo Gardens at Painswick, Prinknash Abbey, Westonbirt Arboretum, antique shopping in Tetbury, Slad Valley - the inspiration behind Laurie Lee's 'Cider with Rosie', Woodchester Park Mansion and Gloucester Cathedral and Docks. Cheltenham provides good shopping and a wealth of bars, cafes and restaurants, as well as its renowned Races and Literary and Music Festivals, while the cities of Bath, Bristol and Oxford are easily accessible for a day trip.

Getting around

Public transport is limited here - there is a bus which goes to Stroud (the nearest town) but the service isn't regular. You really need a car if you're coming to stay, although it is possible to get taxis back from Stroud or Cirencester if you go out at night.

Interaction with guest

We don't live on site, the cottage is completely self contained and private, and guests can arrive at any time that suits them and get the keys from the keysafe outside the door. However, we are just five minutes away by car and are always available to help with anything, whether it's advice about the area and suggestions for things to do, or extra supplies of logs in the winter. However, we take our cue from you and won't intrude if you have everything you need. Our cottage is gorgeous and guests always love staying there - but once you arrive at Hope Cottage it is your holiday, so you will only see us if you want to!

House rules

We are happy for guests to bring one medium sized dog, but request that pets aren't allowed upstairs, and sleep in the utility area/kitchen at night.
Although we do have families visit our cottage, there is a mezzanine level with access via a steep staircase, and children should never be up there unattended or be allowed to run up and down the stairs. It is probably not suitable for very young children/toddlers.
We politely ask that guests keep noise to a minimum if they're outside at night.
