“tropical elegance in a sleepy fishing village”
Thank you, Leigh, for creating such a beautiful place to share with discerning travelers! We just came back from 10 days in her very special home in beach paradise that brings the best of Western comforts to the simplicity of Mexican village life. The house is set back enough from the beach and road to feel private but close enough to hear the thunderous crashing of the waves and breathe in the ocean air. Just about every amenity has been accounted for, even sun block and natural mosquito repellants in case you forgot them. The attention to detail in the woodwork throughout the home has even inspired us for our own home renovations. If you're not familiar with San Agustinillo all you need to know is that it's a sleepy fishing village turned mellow vacation town that offers excellent beachfront restaurants (that include top notch pizza and vegetarian venues), great swimming, boogie boarding and surfing, and boat rides pretty much guaranteed to bring you to dolphins, sea turtles and manta rays, not to mention a cache of seafood to take home and cook in Casa Mihale's well-equipped kitchen. If you're not a fan of heavily touristed destinations, this is the perfect blend of having choices but still feeling off the beaten path. Chris and Andrea Brooklyn, NY
“Lush eco-comfort in the heart of the village”
I had visited San Agustinillo many years ago during the height of the turtle fishing industry when there were no paved roads, electicity or running water in the village. It was truly an unspoiled paradise, with a "wild west" feel to it. I had always wanted to return, and chose the occasion of milestone birthday last year to do so. After much searching online, looking for the "perfect spot" nearest as I could tell to where I parked my camper van on the beach all those years ago (but with more creature comforts), I chose Casa Mihale. All my dreams and hopes about my long-awaited return were rewarded, both by San Agustinillo and Casa Mihale. Booking Casa Mihale was a breeze, and the owner extremely responsive and helpful. Upon our arrival, the Casa was absolutely perfect; supremely comfortable, spacious, clean, well-stocked, and in a great location, centrally located within the village. It was a great feeling to be in the middle of San Agustinillo and be a part of life there, yet also have a private retreat in the lap of luxury, situated in the breezy tree-tops with amazing views. We loved the tranquil, artistic design and quality construction of Casa Mihale, and its utilization of local hardwoods and other materials — very much in keeping with the local eco-guidelines and architecural/aesthetic themes of the village. The spacious, open kitchen/dining/lounge area with ocean views was a delight. On the warmer nights, the air-conditioned bedroom was a welcome option. The attention to detail with plush linens, appliances, and other touches that make a vacation stay more comfortable were much appreciated. Beto and Chema, our hosts and downstairs neighbors, were very friendly and helpful in every way. Beto’s family has a long history in the village (I had fished and snorkeled with his father when I was there in the 70's), so their knowledge of all things San Agustinillo is deep. Be sure to take a fishing and/or marine life/snorkeling trip with Beto and his brother Antonio and swim with the turtles! We also enjoyed La Mora Cafe right across the street for frequent coffees and great breakfasts. The owners, Rosie and Ignacio, are wonderful people as well. Casa Mihale, San Agustinillo, and the whole surrounding area are a piece of heaven not to be missed. Can’t wait to go back!!
“Absolute Heavenly Bliss”
We have been going to San Augustinillo for many years. Over the years the little town has built up, so on our last research when we found Casa Mihale and I spoke in length to the owner (Leigh) we couldn't have been more happy to found this place. First of all the view is breathtaking, yes you actually see whales breaching, we saw them quite regularly, much to the delight of our little girl. Then the place itself is so beautifully designed (yes alright we know him aswell) the shower is fabulous, and the place is spacious, yet cosy. I particularly liked the little booth area where I read each afternoon as my skin settled from the heat. There is also a great breeze that sweeps through the apartment which makes this very comfortable. I highly recommend staying at Casa Mihale, the locals are so friendly, they make you feel like family straight away. Then there's the beach, well pick one spot and you won't see anyone else's eyeballs for at least 30 feet. It's long, sweeping and absolutely beautiful. We did our daily family walks up and down it before breakfast around 7 and it was perfect. Yes I highly recommend this vacation spot even though I really want it all to myself.
