Description from owner

Description

Welcome to our beautiful home in the heart of the Beaujolais. This beautiful small chateau has 9 bedrooms a large kitchen-dining room, dining room, sitting room, and billiards (6') room. The main rooms are all South facing with large windows on the first floor and French doors on the ground floor. Until recently it was our home so you will find it very well equipped: from the Aga in the kitchen to the high speed fibreoptic internet; Jotul and Clearview woodburning stoves; dual purpose Viessmann solar panels that heat the hotwater in the house and the swimming pool down to details like French Scrabble and a well stocked herb and spice drawer! The private garden and 11m heated salt-water pool give you panoramic views over vineyards and rolling hills, 150km to Mont Blanc and the Alps on a clear day in the East and the Monts du Tarare in the West.

Moiré is a small village in the South of the Beaujolais, in an area known as Les Pierres d'Orées, a warm honey coloured limestone with which most of the buildings in the area are built. 35 km from Lyon, it is an ideal base from which to explore as well as being an idyllic spot in which to relax. Villefranche-sur-Saône (access A6) with its fabulous covered food market is 14 km North.

The neighbouring villages include Bagnols with its world renowned château hotel and Oingt, a medieval hill-top village recently classified as one of France's most beautiful villages. The local market town, Le Bois d'Oingt (3 km) has shops, doctor, vet, bank, post office and a market every Tuesday morning.

Wine tasting is available in the 16th century cellar opposite the chateau, or at any of the 6 other winemakers in the village, locally in the area and at world famous vineyards further up the road in Burgundy.

There are numerous restaurants nearby, our favourites are La Feullee in Theizé, Le Donjon in Oingt and L'Auberge Chatoux Fleuri for genuine rustic cuisine on the Col du Chatoux. There are many 1 to 3* Michelin starred restaurants within easy driving distance.

Road and off-road cycling, walking, galleries, music festivals, golf and skiing (Chalmazel 2 h, the Jura and the Alps are all feasible for day trips) are here to be enjoyed.

Getting here.

Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport is 1 hour by car, Geneva is 2.5 hours by car. Marseille is 3.5 hours. Calais is about 7.5 hours. TGV trains come to Lyon and Maçon. There is a private airport nearby at Frontenas for light aircraft.

You can rent the bedrooms individually on a room-only basis if you prefer. You can find them listed as the Carmen and Figaro Suites.

Some catering is also available locally.

Response from the owner Hi Damien I'm really sorry that you found our house too cold for you last week-end. We set the thermostat at 20C (68F) and most people find that quite comfortable. In the event that you want to be more cosy in the living or dining rooms we recommend lighting the wood-burning stoves in these rooms. As I told you before your arrival there is an abundance of logs in stored the garage, all cut to 40cm so that they fit all the stoves in the house. It is a real shame you didn't use the stoves as I think that would have transformed your week-end into a magical experience with the snow falling outside and toasty fires inside. I don't know whether you shut the shutters and closed the curtains in the evening but that also helps keep the heat in. We ask all our guests to leave the house clean and tidy. I'm sorry about the TV however as I said there are numerous DVDs in the cupboard which could have provided many hours of screen time for children or grown-ups. The high speed wifi also gives you the option to watch TV online on your own devices. The wifi works in most rooms on the ground floor and some on the first floor but cannot reach all parts of the house through its 60cm stone walls and solid floors. There is also an HDMI cable to enable you to play your own devices through our TV. I hope you had a safe return to Nice and that the weather is warmer with you at home.

Response from the owner I think you caught the chateau at one of my favourite times of year with the vines and trees in their full autumn technicolour glory. Response from the owner Let's put this in context. Here is the five star review of the paying guests who stayed after you: Fantastic and peaceful place Left on Jul 6, 2017 for a stay in Jul 2017 I have been there for two days for a company meeting and it has been really fantastic to enjoy this place with this nice view and as well we enjoyed the swimming pool. It is very big with many huge rooms. Nice place to go for company activities but as well for vacation with many people. 1.You were a guest of Make A Wish (Bay Area) to whom I have gifted the house 4 times in the last four years (raising $80000 for Make A WIsh) and you are the only person who was anything other than delighted with their stay. 2. The house has no air-conditioning. This is normal. Solar gain is controlled by closing the external louvred shutters and the windows during the heat of the day. The walls (being about 26" of solid stone) also act as a buffer. If you leave everything open during the heat of the day and complain about it being too hot it is similar to leaving everything open in winter and complaining about being too cold. We stayed for two weeks in July and were perfectly comfortable inside. 3. The church is on the opposite side of the village square and its bell rings. We like it, but it does not wake us up. It doesn't disturb our neighbours in the two houses between us and the church either. It's a shame you let it disturb you. The story of the princess and the pea comes to mind. 4.The beds in the principal bedrooms are 160 x 200cm which is between a king size and super king size on UK measurements. In smaller bedrooms there are smaller double beds. Regarding the inset basin in the 19th century marble wash unit, it is the original swivel wash hand basin is a real antique. As its name suggests you empty it by rotating it. 5. The billiards table is (as described online) a 6' table. 6. The pool is absolutely for the exclusive use of the guests of the chateau. It is not shared. My maintenance guy checks on the pool from time to time. 7. The plumbing fault with the wc was reported on the last day of your stay and was repaired in under 24h. 8. The fast fibreoptic broadband, as I already explained to you, works best closer to the router and even with extenders it does not reach all round the chateau. Happily most guests leave us 5 star reviews, but then again most guests have paid and chosen to stay here based on its great reviews, on its accurate description and the photos on its various sites. Regards, Robert
