A true tropical hideaway, Villa Gemma brings a blend of the simple and the luxurious to discerning guests. Maintaining the feel of a rainforest getaway without the temptation of television, yet providing the required link to the world with complimentary WiFi, Gemma's quiet seclusion, lush forest locale and brand new private swimming pool, provides an unsurpassed level of privacy and a truly romantic ambiance. (Note: this is one of only two private rental homes on the island with a non-shared pool. This pool is for your use only.)

You will find the cottage to be comfortable and yet rustic. A well equipped kitchen with gas stove/oven allows for quality meal preparation and the refrigerator is a full sized unit. A microwave, coffee pot, blender, Belizean handcrafted breakfast bar and dining table round out the dining experience.

Ceiling fans on both levels of the house, assisted by portable oscillating floor fans and vaulted ceilings will keep the cottage refreshed with moving air. All windows and doors are fully screened. There is a lock box for your valuables and motion sensor lights in the garden. The pool deck is also quietly lit for your enjoyment and safety. The compact three piece bathroom features a hot water shower, basin and toilet.

The second level deck overlooks the pool and tropical garden, catching the nearby ocean breeze while providing the perfect lookout point for all the natural habitat and flora and fauna that Caye Caulker has to offer. Animal life includes a wide variety of birds including hummingbirds and many varieties of small iguanas. While away your afternoons in a hammock with a good book and enjoy the early evenings illuminated by the fireflies.

Villa Gemma features a private swimming pool that is steps away from your door. The property and swimming pool are not shared with any other homes or guests. Natural Belizean hardwood decks compliment the constantly changing sun and shade of the yard. Cool off with a refreshing dip in your own custom designed, freshwater pool that reflects the best of the Belizean forest grotto style and provides an excellent atmosphere in which to relax and enjoy.

The cottage is located in the neighbourhood south of the village. Rental bicycles are available through the manager and it is approx. 10 minutes by bike to the village.

Villa Gemma offers an exceptional vacation experience for friends and couples alike. We are confident your time at this lovely property will be cherished and fondly recalled.

(Please note: there is no shallow end but steps leading into the pool. Interior stairs to second floor are steep and may not be suitable for very young children or the elderly)

Interaction with guest

Our property manager and his team are always 5 minutes away and will check on you from time to time. The pool and grounds are cleaned on a fairly regular basis so staff may be around but will do their best not to disturb you.

We all make a great effort to keep everything clean and running smoothly for our guests so I'm glad to hear that met your expectations! After a guest books, I do send over a very thorough info sheet to help you during your stay which includes checking in and out, suggestions about what to pack, our personal recommendations, how to get to and from and around the island and more, in order to make your time on the Caye as enjoyable as possible. And I am really glad you found that helpful. While we expect that our management be there for guests 100% to help when they have a problem or an issue during their stay, and to make sure guests get checked in and out as seamlessly as possible and that the house, pool and grounds are kept clean and in good repair, they do not formally offer any concierge services above that and never have. I apologize if there were any misunderstandings, however nowhere in the info sheet, nor on any rental sites, at any time is it stated anyone will book trips, deliver beer, call taxis, etc. for guests. And not in any of the reviews for our home have there been any issues at all about this with any other guests. In fact, on all the sites where we list our house, the one consistent thing we DO get is rave reviews about our property management and staff. And I do believe they are the best on the island. If you have an issue with a taxi driver not arriving on time and you got that number from our guest handbook at the house, then we should be informed for sure so we can remove that number for future guests. Delivering beer to the house for guests is a ‘some-time’ courtesy which Michael our property manager likes to do when he can. He is also so easy to reach and so accommodating, it would be a very simple thing to message him and ask if the beer was on the way in case there was a misunderstanding. Michael is extremely attentive to our guests, I have heard that repeatedly in both public and private feedback. We all do our utmost to try to make helpful recommendations and to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. I'm sorry if there was any misunderstanding about any services beyond that but I'm really glad you enjoyed the house itself and the wonderful private pool (and the privacy that comes with it which is so rare on the island). How do damage deposits work?

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your booking page. To change your dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Yvonne (the owner) a message.

If Yvonne (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
