Description from owner

Description

Dating back to 1783, Carpenters Row Cottage is part of the fascinating history of the Ironbridge Gorge, birthplace of the Industrial Revolution! It comfortably sleeps 4 guests in two bedrooms, plus a further 2 guests on a well sprung sofa bed. The location is great for walking, cycling and exploring the Ironbridge Museums, cafés, pubs and restaurants.

The space is flexible, practical and comfortable. The master bedroom has a lovely antique double bed, and in the twin room, the two single beds can be zipped together to create one king sized bed, so whether you are two couples or a family you will be well catered for.

Dogs

We do allow responsible dog owners to bring their pets, but would ask that you restrict them to the downstairs open plan area using the child gates provided.

------------------------

History of the property.

Carpenters Row is an early example of accommodation built specifically by the Coalbrookdale Company to attract a workforce to its employment.

The row originally consisted of eight cottages and two brew houses. The design of the row was symmetrical: numbers 1-5 were mirror images of numbers 6-10. Each house accommodated the workforce using a system of 'hot bedding', workers from one shift occupying the straw mattress beds from the other, approximately 15 persons per house. So at one point in history the three converted houses that you will be staying in would have once housed around 45 workers. Each house also performed a certain function: the brew-house, which is now the kitchen, housed the old cast iron pot which can now be found in the rear garden.

------------------------------

Carpenters Row Cottage is Grade II listed and comprises:

1 kitchen with dishwasher, oven, gas hob, microwave, kettle, 4 slice toaster and two fridges (with freezer compartments)

2 bathrooms (1 is en-suite to the master bedroom)

2 bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin/superking)

27 ft (8.2m) oak beamed living room

log burner and gas central heating

2 comfortable sofas (one of which is a double sofa bed)

Garden to the side

Terrace along the front

Off road parking for 1 car

(further free parking can be found nearby)

Garden at front of house is gated and has railings, however we cannot guarantee that it is not dog escape proof!

We provide bed linen, towels, handsoap, dish washer tablets, toilet rolls and a supply of tea bags, coffee and sugar. The kitchen is well equipped, but if you need anything particular, a full inventory can be provided.

“What more could I want?”

Reviewed 9 May 2023

We visited this cottage looking for a clean cosy cottage within walking distance of things to do for a long Coronation weekend. We weren’t disappointed. The cottage itself was clean modern and surprisingly airy for an old cottage. The bathrooms and kitchen perfect for a short visit and the beds comfortable. My parents were delighted by how well equipped the house was ! (Tin foil and cling film, tea bags & sugar!) Across the road were 2 museums and a museum cafe perfect for lunch. We hadn’t realised how many local walks there were so dont forget some stout shoes / walking boots. It is easy to walk down to the Iron Bridge about 20 mins away and you will find lots of places to eat. The cottage owners were super helpful so if you’ve any questions just ask !

“Brilliant - a fab little cottage”

Reviewed 6 Apr 2022

The communication from the owners as great from the start. They reiterated about the potential building work that may disturb us. The builders never came, so this wasn’t even an issue. The cottage was incredibly welcoming, cosy, fire laid up, fizz in the fridge and some choccies. We felt spoilt! The kitchen is brilliantly equipped, we had all that we needed, lovely glasses and flutes really makes a difference. We had plenty of hot water, the en-suite shower is AMAZING! Beds super comfy, sofas lovely, just everything was lovely. The garden was adequate for my dog and the walks straight out of the cottage and up behind into the woods were a real treat. I thought the road might bother me, it did not. It’s a short walk down to Ironbridge for all that you need, fresh croissants from the Co-op, a pasty from the pork pie place, plenty of places for a quiet beer and food options. Amazing walks, craft centre, museums etc, which we did not fully explore so we will be back. Congratulations to Alison and Mike for providing an exceptional holiday cottage - thank you.

Great kitchen equipped with absolutely everything. Large bedrooms, super comfy beds, and great to have 2 bathrooms. Superb location for walks, Ironbridge and all the Museums.
