Description
A delightful cottage of character set in its own large garden. Silhouette has been sympathetically renovated to provide all modern conveniences whilst keeping its original charm. Situated on the edge of the beautiful Forest of Dean and close to the spectacular views of the Wye Valley the cottage is perfect for a romantic retreat or active holiday with family or friends.
The lovely garden is ideal for alfresco dining. Have a BBQ on the paved patio area. A couple of wooden picnic tables complement the garden so you can choose to sit in the sun or on the lawn under the shade of a beautiful copper beech tree, whilst just a short walk away is the White Horse the first and last Inn in England, serving excellent food and providing a small local shop. The White Horse bake their own bread daily which can be ordered in advance for collection.
Staunton is the first village in The Forest of Dean when approached from Monmouthshire, sited high up above Monmouth & the Wye Valley. The English-Welsh border & Offa's Dyke path pass close to the village. A short walk to the Buckstone just one of the standing stones of the area affords views right across to the Welsh hills. In spring the local woods are filled with a carpet of bluebells, whilst in autumn the reds and yellows of the trees are stunning.

“Absolutely lovely”
There aren't enough positive words in the dictionary to describe how lovely our stay was and how stunning the cottage and scenery is. We booked 3nights but wanted to stay forever. We are so glad we chose Silhoutte Cottage. We hope to visit again next year. Booking the cottage 10/10 The cottage itself 10/10 Amenities 10/10 Michelle's hospitality 10/10 Please note: I took off half a star because of the narrow driveway and half a star because the biggest spider I have ever seen touched my foot :(

“Great stay”
Thanks for a lovely stay. Even storm Dennis couldn’t stop us having fun! Lovely cottage with everything we needed and clean clean with a cake left out for us on arrival. Pub is a minutes walk away with nice food and very friendly and accommodating of our two children. Kids loved Puzzlewood and we had lots of adventures on our bikes and by foot around the forest.

“Perfect cottage in the Forest of Dean”
This is a lovely cottage close to the Forest of Dean and all its attractions. The FOD is my place of birth and my husband and I had a long weekend to relax and unwind and visit family and friends. The cottage is spotless - sleeps 4 people very comfortably in 2 double bedrooms; well equipped kitchen, gorgeous lounge which offers a log burner for cosy evenings which we especially enjoyed. The bed linen is exquisite and I slept the best over our three nights that I have in months - really comfy bed. The dining "room" is a really nice conservatory - lots of light. All in all a really great cottage - its a little hidden away down the end of a lane but brilliant instructions from the owner so it was easy for us to locate. It is very peacful there. Pub right next door if you don't want to venture far. Monmouth is 6 minutes drive with good shopping and a choice of supermarkets eg Lidl, Waitrose, M&S Food Hall, Iceland and the town itself is full of very nice independent retailers along with a few well known High St names - really lovely place to shop. I am naturally biased but the Forest of Dean is outstandingly beautiful (despite the inclement weather we experienced) there are so many nice walks and view points - Symonds Yat; Speech House, Cannop, to name but a few - Dean Heritage, lots and lots of choice and the location of this cottage is spot-on. Thank you to Michelle for all your help - really helpful notes left in the cottage - really great stay and we will definitely return.
