Description
Our troglodyte lodgings are located in the Loire Valley in the town of Le Puy Notre Dame. The gîte is independent and measures approximately 80 m2. It is south facing, very clear and perfectly healthy in all seasons. Please provide sheets, towels and tea towels. A tourist tax will be required, ie 0.90 euros per night and per adult. This cottage is located in a regional park in the Saumur region, in the countryside. The riverside is 4 km for the Thouet and 24 km for the Loire. Puy Notre Dame in the south of the Saumur region remains close to the Loire castles while being at the gateway to the Poitou-Charente region. Troglodyte gite is situated next to the owner's house. Surface 80 m2. South facing very healthy in every season. All rooms have windows. Living room, kitchen, living space. 1 bed room 140. 2 bedroom 2 beds 90. Bathroom, wc. Private parking. Private courtyard and patio. Central heating. Please provide sheets towels and your towels. A residence tax will be charged at 0.90 euros per night per adult.

“Absolutely Wonderful.”
This was such a unique experience and, as it turns out the perfect choice as were visiting France in the middle of the severe heatwave. Veronique was warm and welcoming. Between my basic French and her basic English, we managed to sort everything easily when we arrived. The gite was cool and well fitted out with all mod cons that we needed. There are 2 outdoor terraces - the lower one is perfect for relaxing breakfasts, whilst the upper one was ideal for afternoon and evening meals. There is a bar/tabac and a boulangerie in Le Puy Notre Dame, about 2 km up the road. Bigger supermarkets and additional facilities are in Montreuil-Bellay and Doue La Fontaine (10 mins and 15 mins respectively). The area around is very attractive with many sites to discover. Even though the temperature was 40+C for some of the time that we were there, the ability to escape into the pleasant coolness of the cave was perfect and the night time temps meant that sleep was never a problem either. We had a marvelous visit and I would highly recommend it to anyone (although, the path down into the gite is relatively steep, so might be a struggle for someone with significant mobility issues) - and, I can definitely see myself revisiting the area again, and if I did, I would most certainley rebook this gite.
