Description

The chalet is a privately owned 2 bed-roomed chalet bungalow in the grounds of Penstowe Manor, which is a 19th Century Cotswold style manor house in 30 acres of grounds. It is self catering, sleeping 4 people with 2 bedrooms 1 double and 1 twin (with it's own TV and DVD player), a fully fitted kitchen, bathroom with shower and a lounge/dining room with TV , DVD and iPod dock . Both TV's have Free-view. Recently it was fully redecorated and refurbished with new flooring throughout and a patio laid. All bed linen and towels are provided during your stay and beds will be made up for your arrival. A travel cot is also available, although you will need to bring your own cot linen. There are outside chairs provided for you to use on the patio. Electricity is not included but is payable locally using the card meter in chalet, cards can be purchased via Penstowe , and I will advise details where these can be purchased. WIFI is available within King Arthur's Penstowe Manor and it's associated buildings. Penstowe Manor offers some or all facilities , which is now known as King Arthur' Penstowe and has gone a full refurbishment. Any queries email or message me and I can update you. Penstowe Sports & Leisure Club, which offers the indoor pool and the outside pool (only open in summer, check with me for dates) is available to guests staying at 12 Hillside, but some charges will be made, which can be daily weekly or other duration The King Arthur's Penstowe offers: bars, a restaurant, bar food and takeaway; cabaret suite with dance floor; and bar; live entertainment; children's entertainment; children's club and activities; amusements; big screen TV; King Arthur's also offers free WIFI access.

Kilkhampton village is 5 - 10 minutes walk away and has 2 pubs serving food, grocers shops, a Pizzeria, post office, fish and chip shop and Chinese takeaway.The nearest beach is Sandymouth bay 2.5 miles and Bude is 4 miles which has fantastic beaches for families and surfers. There are also some great coastal walks and a canal which has a circular walk of around 4.5 miles. Bude is handy for Boscastle, Tintagel and Padstow whilst the Eden Project is 1 hour away.

Getting around

Whilst a car is recommended, there is a bus service from Kilkhampton to Bude, Hartland and onto Bideford, which runs many times a day. Please check for up to date timings. There is also a railway station in Bude, Bude Strand which has a number of services.

Before your arrival, I will email or post you full details comprising, Directions, Key Lock Details for accessing the chalet, A Welcome to 12 Hillside document and a Guest Feedback Form. Prior to your arrival all beds will have been made up, towels put out and the chalet cleaned. All ready for you to get in, unpack and start enjoying your holiday. I am always available on my mobile should there be an queries as is my cleaner. If you have any requests prior to your holiday please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate you.

“12 Hillside, Penstowe Manor”

Nice clean, chalet in peaceful location (bring your own J cloths and a tea towel as only one supplied) everything else we needed was there. Great indoor pool, ideal for visiting places in Cornwall and Devon. Two very local pubs in village we could walk to, we ate at the New Inn, food was good. Didn't get to eat in the London Inn as always fully booked, need to book in advance. Some great pubs with good food a short drive away, the Bradworthy Inn and the Bush Inn an old 13th century smugglers inn with lovely views. Went on some great coastal walks. Visited Appledore, you have to try their (Hockings) icecream, van on the front. Visited Port Isaac, very busy, if you go there watch out for the seagulls, saw one dive-bomb some poor guy's icecream! Walked to nice quiet bay (Port Gaverne) a few minutes around from Port Isaac. There's a very refreshing seawater pool on the beach at Bude. Word of warning about the car park there (Summerleaze), none of the machines were working so needed to download an app to pay for the parking, was a bit of a faff! We discovered Crooklets beach around from there had a quieter car park where you could pay at machines. There's a good coastal walk near Kilhampton, not long but climbs and descents quite challenging from Sandymouth to Duckpool, £5 charge NT car park, free or donation if you go from Duckpool to Sandymouth. Always carry 20p as needed for most public toilets in Cornwall! A very enjoyable break in all.

“Perfect location”

Perfect location for visiting Cornwall & Devon Everything was provided for in the chalet as well as many extras! Very well equipped with even picnic plates, cups etc... The bathroom needs updating, not very mobility friendly as the bath was almost impossible to get into to shower. Chairs, loungers provided in outdoor lock up again needed to be upgraded for bench & chairs. Please be aware again that access to the chalet is a steep incline and then a short incline down to the path which again someone with mobility issues will struggle with! “Ideal place when visiting Bude”

Well equipped chalet, good size for the 2 of us. No real problems. In May its a little damp and cold which reflected the outside weather, but has plenty of electric heaters to warm it up. A bit of a faff having to buy electric cards at the pool reception, so add another £30 for the week for power if you are cooking at the chalet. The owner Ian was very helpful with the minor issues we had, which were sorted very quickly. The facilities at Penstowe were mainly closed due to pandemic but the pool and gym were open although not used by us.

“WFI Access”

The accommodation was very comfortable and well equipped. Everything needed was in the Bungalow the only thing that might be an asset is the availability of WFI. Location was good

“Another great stay”

This is our third stay at this chalet and once again we have had a great holiday. The chalet is lovely, very well equipped with everything you may need, clean, very welcoming. The owner also supplies bath towels for all occupants whilst using the chalet. There is outdoor furniture available which was great in the evening to sit outside the chalet and enjoy the evening sunshine. Our family, includes two teenage boys, really like this chalet everything about it is perfect including the area. Penstowe Manor with its pool, gym and restaurants is great if weather is not so good, just down the road is several shops, pubs and a fish and chip shop if you don't want to do any cooking and the beautiful Sandymouth beach is approx 10 minutes away in the car. Would highly recommend this chalet.
