Description from owner
Description
Far from the madding crowd, set down its own private leafy driveway nestled in 9 acres of fields and woodland. The old cottage dates back to the early Victorian age and is full of charm and character. It has an open fire, oil-fired central heating, (only available during the winter months) and has a warm home-from-home feel. The cottage has a large 5' bed, and romantic eves with skylights to gaze upon the stars. The bedroom has limited headroom but is very romantic. A large deep bath with shower attachment is on the ground floor, with a small toilet/washbasin upstairs. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, fridge, and freezer. Deep cleaned after every letting.
There is a graveled area in front of the cottage, with a table and seats to sit and watch the horses grazing in the paddocks or have your breakfast and watch the birds and wildlife. There is a very private garden overlooking the fields with a fire pit and sun loungers and seating.
Peace and tranquillity, situated on the edge of the picturesque village of Langton Herring, is just the place to unwind. Dogs are welcome (only 2) and owners must comply with the owner's request to keep them on a lead and off the furniture and must not be left in the cottage alone. Dogs are not allowed upstairs. Owners are responsible for picking up after their dogs and putting in the tall black bin at the top of the drive. There is a charge of £10 per day per dog payable to the owner for extra cleaning (ON ARRIVAL). Walking distance to the famous Chesil beach, but only 6 miles from Weymouth and 7 miles from Dorchester.
The cottage is completely self-contained with plenty of parking. Weekly rentals or short breaks in the winter.
Plenty of walks to take in the stunning views of Abbotsbury and surrounding areas along the coastal path. The Elm Tree public house is a short walk into the village, next door to the Norman church of St. Peter. The Fleet Lagoon is famous for the Abbotsbury Swannery, and subtropical gardens. Approximately 1 mile down a country bridleway, overlooking the stunning views of the Fleet Lagoon and the Chesil Beach. Perfect for an evening walk and stopping on the way back for a drink in the Elm Tree Inn.
The fresh smell of the sea and the waves crashing on the beach (when the wind is in the right direction) add to the atmosphere of this unique little gem. You will want to come back here.
In the winter months, a log fire is available, and logs, kindling, etc. can be purchased from the owner at £10 per log basket. Central heating is on from October till April.
The peace is only disturbed by the noise of the pheasants and the sound of the sea pulling out from Chesil Beach. The copse is full of fallen leaves that entice the deer into the wood. These can often be seen from the cottage bedroom windows grazing with the horses or eating my plants.
Many of my guests say how well they sleep in the peace of this cottage and feel so refreshed when their stay is over. Regulars come back every few months just to chill out. Guests are now requested to bring their own hand towels and bath towels due to COVID. Tea towels are etc. provided.

“Grooms Cottage”
What a fabulous location, tucked away below the village. Open fire for the winter nights, large bath to warm the toes after a short walk to Fleet lagoon and views over Chesil Beach. Hilary is a great host and the local pub, Elm Tree, has good food and friendly staff. What more could you want??!

“Its OK”
Pleasant surroundings with trees and fields and nice walks. V quiet location. Fab pub close by. Downside, cottage had no shower except handheld in the bath, with low head height. Suggest you need a 4x4 as we grounded our car on each trip entering the long driveway.

Response from the owner Perhaps you should read the cottage details and suggest you drive better. I am unable to change the way the Council have made the road. If you had driven slower you would have had no problem. If you grounded once I would have thought you might have learnt to go slower. My driveway has just been resurfaced.

Response from the owner Disappointed at your response. I went out of my way to help you. The new tv allows people to watch all stations if they put their code in. There is no need for dvd's any more you have catch up, box sets and recording etc. etc. Again you will need to catch up on new technology. I do not think you read the details about the cottage and the beams. There is no way you can put a shower in a cottage of this age. I am also quite upset that you booked the cottage at April's rates and I did not charge you any extra for summer rates. I also did not charge you for the central heating. I would suggest you shut the windows to keep the heat in next time. The cooker is working very well, and the previous guests were very pleased that it was such a high spec. cooker. I think you should read the instructions next time. You did not ask me to help you to get the cooker working, which I would have been only to pleased to help. Perhaps you should stick to hotels in future - although you will have to pay a lot more. Can't do much about the weather - this is England

Response from the owner Oh thank you so much for such a wonderful review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay. "A diamond in Dorset" I shall have to think of marketing my cottage under that tile. It was a pleasure to have such a lovely couple and cookie go stay. I do hope you will come again and enjoy the log fire in the winter months. Kind regards Hilary and the animals - tame and wild.

Response from the owner Hi Ruth, I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay. I wish I could have made the weather nicer for you to enjoy everything that this wonderful coastline has to offer, but it seems it just does not want to stop raining. Glad I was able to help save the cauliflower cheese. I always like to make my guests feel as if they are at a home from home relaxed break. Anything I can do to help a stay more memorable and enjoyable I will try and help. Hope to see you again. regards Hilary

Response from the owner Thank you both for such a wonderful review. I like to think that my guests have a home from home feeling with the cottage., and although close at hand I do not wish to intrude in their privacy. I am so pleased that you enjoyed the peace and quiet that Grooms Cottage offer (despite the sheep requesting their breakfast) I hope you will come back again soon. Kind regards Hilary

Response from the owner Lovely friendly guests who enjoyed everything that this stunning Dorset coastline has to offer. I am so pleased that the deer and the fox kept us all entertained over the challenge of who were going to eat the fallen apples. I am delighted you enjoyed Grooms Cottage, and hope to see you again.
