Description from owner

Description

This charming village house, 300 years old and steeped in history, has been fully renovated to provide modern comfortable character accommodation with stunning views of Lake Como and the surrounding mountains. For families, groups or couples, this house has a special quality. Just stand by the window and let your heart soar!

Although the building is centuries old, the decor is light and contemporary, but with touches of cosiness, like the wood-burning stove, to make sure that the house is welcoming all year round. Its thick stone walls mean it is never too hot in summer nor too cold in winter. It was once part of a home of a noble family, which became a convent on the Antica Via Regina, so it has had a long tradition of welcoming travellers to the lake area, a tradition that we are happy to continue!

We've provided lots of information and maps to help you make the most of every day. But if you don't feel like going far, this is the perfect place, because the lovely beach, perfect for swimming and sunbathing, is only five minutes down a cobbled path, and the village has everything you need.

Because the house is in the oldest part of the village which is not accessible for cars, we do not have a dedicated parking space. However there are several options for free public parking within a short walk from the house. For those who would prefer to be car-free, we find that it is perfectly possible to enjoy a wonderful holiday here using public transport. The main bus service that runs the length of the lake is only a few minutes walk down the hill.

Interaction with guest

We aren't resident in Italy at the moment, but visit the house frequently. It's managed jointly with a lady called Signora Luigina Monga, who lives in the village and looks after the cleaning and linen. Keys are provided in a key box next to the front door. When you have paid the full balance for your holiday, I will send you full details on how to find the house, and of course the code for the keybox. Before and during your stay I am contactable - I like to be in touch with guests, taking the lead from you, and am willing to help you plan your stay in the lake area if you would like.

“Sparkling lake views!”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2018

What better way to start the day than flinging open the shutters to see Lake Como glistening in front of you! This traditional stone apartment is embedded in an old part of the village - you have to walk the last few metres, leaving the car behind. There is a very useful garage half way up the hill (but don't come in an estate!). The apartment is fully equipped, clean and very comfortable. The terrace is great to relax on and feel part of the Italian community. There are two very good restaurants nearby, one right down on the water's edge (Creme Caramel - but you have to book...just pop in, as they speak English!) and the other in town (Da Luigi's). It's a useful base to visit Menaggio, where you can take the ferry to reach Varenna, Bellagio, Villa Carlotta, or to drive along the lake, eg to Como or to visit villas. Kate is a responsive and informative host, readily available by text/email if needed. Highly recommended!

Response from the owner Thank you for this super review! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. You are right about the garage not being suitable for a very long car - we advise people not to accept an upgrade even if it's offered for free! We are hoping that next year the ferry will start to call at Acquaseria, for the first time in many years......

“A relaxing holiday with stunning views and fabulous accomodation!”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2017

A great house with the owners going out of their way to ensure you have the perfect stay. Kate provided excellent instructions for locating the house with the house itself having everything you could possibly need for a perfect stress free holiday. The views from the house were absolutely stunning onto the lake and up into the hills beyond. Beautiful church bells to be heard and a lovely sunny balcony to spend time relaxing on, perhaps reading one of the books from the excellent mini library in the house. The first day we had lunch and an evening meal at the fabulous and welcoming Creme Caramel a few minutes walk away where we also found a peaceful area to relax next to the lake or be more energetic and go for a swim. Local shops on the high street had many essentials with a short trip into Menaggio providing a larger supermarket for supplies. We arranged a transfer from the airport so no car hire but used buses to travel to Menaggio. The journey is less than ten minutes and note that if you purchase your ticket on the bus it will cost more. It is preferable to purchase your tickets from Bar Carlos across the road from the bus stop. There are lots of things to do in the local area as well as further afield; including Kayaking in Menaggio, Boat trips to other towns around the lake, visits to Como town, swimming in the Lake and boat hire. Menaggio has a lovely square with plenty of shops to buy souvenirs as well as lots of restaurants overlooking the lake. The guest book located in the house provides lots of useful information and tips from previous guests - This was unexpected but such a wonderful touch! We can't thank you enough for the amazing trip we have had; we will definitely be returning!
