“Perfect location and view”

Reviewed 26 Sep 2021

We were lucky with the weather and there was no need for a car all week. Great walks along the South West Coast Path in both directions. Quiet beach and swimming opportunities. We didn't manage to go fishing, but maybe next time. It is possible to cycle or walk to Bridport along the cycle paths if you wish. Our only day trip in the car was at the end of the week to Abbotsbury Subtropical Garden, which was a delight. Good restaurants close by and plenty of fish and vegetables if you are self catering. Good coffee and bakery across the car park. The house has all you need.

Response from the owner Thanks for taking the time to let us know about the issues with the house. The bed bolts and screws have now been tightened, so the bed no longer creaks. We're sorry the mattress was not hard enough for you - we chose one that is mid-range in softness, so that it would work for as many people as possible, but we realise that personal taste in mattress firmness varies. We're sorry about the smell in the bathroom - rather than being caused by the Edwardian sewage system, it was caused by the U-trap having dried out, from the house not being in continuous use over the winter months; this should no longer be the case with the house being fully occupied for the rest of the season (so the U bend trap stays full of water as it should be). We have also now put chemicals down both shower and bath drains. Of course hair left in the drain is not acceptable, and our cleaners have been reminded to check each time. We have the highest standards of cleaning. We're glad you enjoyed the views -they are indeed spectacular.

“Amazing location, beautiful views, proper beach holiday”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2016

First of all I would like to thank the owner for letting us stay in this amazing holiday home. We could not have been happier here for the week. The location attracted us in an instant to book this and we were not disappointed. If you want to be 1 minute walk from the beach, and wake up to a stunning sea view every day, this is the place to stay. This chalet style bungalow is all on one floor, you have a very large living room/dining room with big patio doors overlooking the beach and sea. This room has been decorated recently and gives the impression of a seaside chalet inside, very nice. There is also one large double bedroom also facing the sea, again with patio doors, Both these rooms lead onto a small veranda which you can sit on the bench and just watch the sea, or watch the sun go down over the cliffs to the West. Amazing. There is a good size family bathroom. The shower is plenty powerful enough. There is also a bath. There is a second separate toilet. There is an adequately sized twin room. All beds are comfy and there is plenty of wardrobe space in both rooms. The kitchen is a good size. Well equipped to cook a good meal. We cooked here a lot because we enjoyed being in this house and eating with a perfect sea view!! There is also a dishwasher and a washing machine. There is a back garden which is also a good enough size. It has a picnic table which is placed where you can just see the sea, and also has a comfy swing seat. The garden was big enough for my children to happily play bat and ball. You can also access the front of the property to the veranda from the back garden. There are 36 steps up to the house, so i would not recommend this property if you are slightly immobile. This did not put us off, it was a good work out everyday!!! We were lucky whilst we were here that the annual torch light procession was on Sunday night, which also has a bonfire on the car park below the house and finishes with a lovely firework display on the beach, we were able to sit on the veranda and watch the fireworks. We also took our dog, and due to the wooden floors in the property it was easy to hoover dog hair up every day and maintain the cleanliness of the property. We were extremely lucky with the weather and had really sunny and warm week, West Bay is a lovely seaside town if you just want to enjoy relaxing on the beach, walks along the stunning cliffs and finding nice places to eat and drink. It is a totally unspoilt/untacky seaside town. I cannot recommend this property enough. We will return. And if you are Broadchurch fans this property is the white chalet on the cliff that you see a lot!!!! Cannot wait to see it in the next series.

“Views to die for....”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2016

If you google West Bay, the white house you see on the views over West Bay Cliffs, is this house. It's a unique building probably of some years that has been loved and characterised by the current owners. On booking I saw some reviews that said it's tired - sure it has been here for a while, but it's clean, cared for and has been modernised in part and probably still in progress. The house is in good order, everything works, the shower gushes hot water, the kitchen works, utensils are good, furnishing is functional and clean, beds are comfy enough - nothing to complain about unless you are a grumbler. Then you add the location and views and you will struggle to find a more incredible view and setting. West Bay is a small village, probably of fishing origins, with a modern pier, a scattering of fish and chip painted sheds on the harbor edge and some small pubs/restaurants. If you like hill walking and coastal views this is the place for you. I've given 5 stars as I think this place has some qualities that are rare to find and I will come back again and again. Never met the owners but can't help but feel they love, continue to care for and nuture it.
