Nestled in the heart of the beautiful wooded Teign Valley on Dartmoor - a stone throw from the National Trust's Fingle Woods (850 hectares of ancient woodland - footpaths, wildlife haven, mountain biking, wild swimming), a semi-detached stone cottage, one of two converted cottages (Butterdon and Mardon) from a barn beside the owners' farmhouse, surrounded by 50 acres of woodland with stunning 2 acre lake (½ mile away), which you are welcome to wander around and enjoy. Rustic games barn (table tennis, table football, snooker table). 4 miles down river from Drewsteignton and great riverside pub. Short walk to Dunsford Nature Reserve at Steps Bridge, spring daffodils, riverside walks to Castle Drogo, birdwatching. Three golf courses within 5 miles. Exeter, 8 miles.

Inside, the cottage is Beautifully decorated with all handmade soft furnishings giving the cottage a very homely and welcoming feel. Door into open-plan living/dining room with woodburner, TV/DVD and iPod dock. The kItchen is very well appointed (Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, oven, microwave, fridge freezer) with a great range of utensils. Downstairs there is also a smart shower-room (suite). Upstairs, two bedrooms – a pretty double, and another double plus single bed and steep ladder stairs (stairgate) to mezzanine kids play area. Upstairs there is also a stylish family bathroom with bath.

Outside there is a large area of communal grass and the cottage also has its own enclosed, fenced lawned, South- facing garden with table and chairs. There is a stocked, well used bird feeder in the garden which you can enjoy the wide range of birds that come to it from the sofa in the lounge or from the garden. In the evenings you can hear the Owls and watch the bats, deer, badgers, and watch the stars in the dark sky. The Teign Valley is one of the best places to watch the stars are there is very little light pollution. We are also lucky enough to have the best wild swimming spot in the south west within walking distance from the cottage.

A relaxed, peaceful place to stay and wonderful for anyone with a passion for wildlife. Clifford Barton is a great place for kids who will love all the space and the games room which also has a stage for any budding actors. We are also happy to take dogs (max 2) by prior agreement.

House rules

Only guests staying at the property are allowed on site, unless agreed with us in advance of your stay. This cannot be more than the number of bed spaces in each of the properties.

We are happy to accept dogs (a maximum of 2 per property) and charge an additional £25 per dog, per stay which is payable on arrival. We do ask that dogs are not left unattended in the property or garden and that they do not go on beds or furniture. We also ask that dogs are kept on a lead around the cottages.
