Description from owner

Description

Mole End is one of a small group of wooden lodges built in a quiet valley right on the banks of the river Teign. It is surrounded by National Park woodland which is managed by the National Trust in partnership with the Woodland Trust.

The poet Rupert Brooke is said to have camped here with a group of friends including Virginia Woolf.

Wild flowers, birds, catch and return fishing ( day/week permit can be bought locally). Fallow deer seen regularly from the window and kingfishers and dippers are often seen on the riverbank. Starry skies.Small children's play area.

The lodge is 2 storey, with the living room having a sociable kitchen leading off, dining area and good sized sunny veranda perfect for using the gas barbecue .

The double bedroom overlooks the river with bathroom adjoining. Upstairs there is a gallery with single sofa bed for occasional use, and a twin room under the eaves which looks out to the river.

An excellent base for exploring Dartmoor by foot, bicycle or car but also the beaches of South Devon with picturesque towns such as Dartmouth and Salcombe within 1hr away. The Dart valley railway is close by. Exeter with rail and airport links is 20 mins drive and Plymouth and Cornwall are perfect for a day trip.

Locally there are plenty of traditional pubs to visit with the inn at Fingle bridge an easy riverside walk through the woodland.

“Wonderful”

Reviewed 13 Sep 2020

We have just returned from our short break and have had such a great time. The location was perfect and tranquil, close enough to the A30 and to all of the beautiful surroundings. We went on long walks each day, only a short drive all of the Tors and Reservoirs we visited, although be prepared for the country roads! The cabin was clean, picturesque and had everything we could ever need. We found the maps, leaflets and tupperware especially useful for our walks. We also enjoyed going to the Fingle Bridge Inn and recommend using the bikes. We look forward to coming again in the future, thank you!

Response from the owner I am pleased that you were there to enjoy the wild daffodils. Meadows full of flowers must be becoming more rare so it is extra special to be surrounded by them at Mole End at this time of year.
