Description from owner

Description

If your idea for a holiday or a short break is to lounge outside your own secluded lakeside lodge, ambling around a beautifully landscaped garden comprising of 6.5 acres of land which boasts its own lake and summerhouse creating a fantastic façade for photographic opportunities with flora and fauna, then look no further. Lakeside Rendezvous is the perfect location for that romantic getaway snuggled up by our recently installed log burner.

We offer a flexible tailor made service with complete co-ordination to accommodate your every need.

In the heart of mystical Wiltshire Lakeside Rendezvous nestles at the foot of the Roundway Hills where it is reputed that a famous battle ensued with Oliver Cromwell at the helm of the Round Heads against the Royalist Cavaliers. Lakeside Rendezvous is located in a tranquil rural location, set in the Vale of the Seven White Horses. At the heart of Lakeside is a natural well established spring fed lake.

There are local pubs within a 10 minute walk from Lakeside serving good food and traditional beers. In the local village there are two pubs, one called The George & Dragon which is a highly recommended eating establishment specializing in fish and the other is called The Cross Keys. We also have a new ice-cream parlour within a two minute walk from us, The Rowdey Cow which along with creating superb ice-cream, serve breakfasts, lunches and occasionally evening meals.

Or why not stroll along the tow path of the Kennet & Avon canal which is approximately 1 mile from us. The Kennet & Avon canal is a navigable waterway crossing Southern England linking Bristol to Reading. It links many architectural and engineering triumphs including aqueducts, pumping stations and lock flights. The canal is a combination of three waterways, the river Avon to the West, the river Kennet to the East both of which are linked by 57 miles of man-made waterway. We are just 1 mile from the famous Caen Hill locks, 29 in all, the canal then climbs 240ft through locks making its way through the historical town of Devizes. Why not stop off at the Marina and take a trip on one of the now operating narrow boats and lazily travel the canal stopping off at one of the pubs such as The Barge or even hire a day boat yourself if you are feeling a bit adventurous.

Alternatively venture into the market town of Devizes taking in Wadworths Brewery where you might see the Dray horse drawn carriages which still deliver the beer. Devizes boasts its own cinema, bingo hall, sports centre and museum along with many good eating establishments such as The Peppermill. There are equestrian and golfing centres nearby.

Other interesting local places are all within easy reach. Here are just a few for your perusal:

1. Avebury Stone Circle, Great Barn and Manor House where it is said that three thousand years ago the largest stones at Stonehenge were dragged across the Wiltshire Downs from Avebury.

2. Mystical Stonehenge itself and Salisbury with its famous cathedral.

3. Cherhill and the Pewsey Vale with its White Horses carved into the chalk hills.

4. Bowood House where the current Earl of Shelbourne resides. Bowood House has an adventure playground and the most spectacular gardens. Bowood also has a highly recommended Golf & Country Club, where you do not have to be a member to play a round.

5. The beautiful National Trust Village of Lacock, where Fox Talbot pioneered photography and more recently parts of the Harry Potter phenomenon were filmed.

6. The picturesque National Trust Village of Castle Coombe.

7. The beautiful Georgian city of Bath, with its ancient natural spring baths.

8. Corsham Court which was once a royal manor in the days of the Saxon Kings. The house and gardens are principally the work of Lancelot "Capability" Brown, Jon Nash and Thomas Bellamy. More recently Corsham was used in the acclaimed filming of Poldark.

9. Marlborough town which dates back to the Doomsday Book.

If you are thinking about visiting Wiltshire in late summer you may get a chance to see the legendary crop circles and then you can decide for yourselves whether they are fact or fiction.

Whatever your reason for visiting Wiltshire let Lakeside Rendezvous be your central location.

Response from the owner Paul and his family were model guests leaving the lodge how they found it and we are certainly looking forward to having them stay with us in September. Hopefully they will be able to surpass the 19 lb carp caught on this occasion. I would definitely recommend them as guests. Thank you for your lovely review. See you all soon. Kind Regards, Sarah, Phil and all the animals, especially Dotty.
