Description
The property faces the main square in Politika, on the big island of Evia, which is close to Athens. (Maybe 90 minutes by car.) You would not want to stay at this location if you were strictly visiting Athens... it is too far to commute... but it might be a nice side trip for a couple of days if you don't want to spend your entire trip in the big city and would like to experience Greek life on a more normal, typical, traditional level. Or also if you live in Athens or surrounding areas and just want a nice weekend getaway spot to get out of the loud, crowded city with air pollution--this could be an excellent option for you.
Politika is a small, charming little town along the water of around 1500 residents in Chalkida, on Evia, in the Central Greece Region of Greece. In the warmer months there are plenty of opportunities for swimming in the Aegean and sun bathing. There is also excellent hiking and cycling in the area--and throughout Evia. (Evia has roughly 900 km / 600 miles of shoreline... so many excellent beaches and beautiful views.) Agriculture is the main activity in and around Politika... and some fishing. So, it's truly the country lifestyle. Quiet. Bucolic. Relaxed. The opposite of Athens. :)
We would like to develop this property and this area as a hiking and biking center... a place to start from. Perhaps keep road and mountain bikes at the property and rent those as well. But for now, we are just renting the residence--fully furnished--either by the night, the week... even by the month.
As mentioned above, the property faces the main town square of Politika... which dates back many generations. There is a medieval tower next to the main square for example which dates back to the 15th century, when the Venetians ruled Greece.

There are also a few old churches and many other old buildings from different centuries. Along with a handful of cafes and restaurants, small grocery stores, pharmacy, etc. Anything you would need is a very short walk from the property.
Our family also has four different olive groves in the area so we come and go regularly to maintain those properties and harvest the olives to make our own olive oil. If you come and stay at the right time of year, we may let you help with the olive harvest and pay you in oil--as is the tradition locally. :)
The house for rent is the 2nd floor of a two story building. The first floor has a small cafe inside. The second floor has basically two large rooms with beds and furniture... that can sleep four to six... a kitchen, and a bathroom... and a small patio that overlooks the square.
There is parking as well.
