Description

The Artist's Escape log cabin has been built entirely of salvaged and reclaimed antique wood, doors and windows and has lots of character. The focus of this construction was on reworking and recycling materials. The free standing log cabin was designed and build with the intention of using only salvaged wood and architectural antiques. With the large window front facing the garden, letting in a lot of light, the tin roof and the wooden floors we have created a yesteryear feeling. The log cabin is intentionally furnished in an old fashioned style, representing an artist's escape from the world after a long day of creating his art. The style of the log cabin is eclectic and bohemian with beautiful pictures adorning one wall, a ball and claw couch and two antique single mahogony beds (that can be moved together for couples). The Victorian linen cupboard has been given a handcrafted antelope bone handle. The door handle is made of a piece of African Oryx antelope shin bone. The cabin has an en-suite, large bathroom build from antique fire doors sealed with beautiful handmade colorful tiles. The arch that leads to the bathroom was salvaged from a church and costumized to fit the entrance to the bathroom. A glass chandelier and a dressing table completes the look. The small vintage kitchen has a fridge, stove, water kettle and microwave. It is fully equipped with a large variety of vintage porcelain cups, glasses and plates. The small deck surrounding the cabin has handrails, that are made of 150 years old sneeze wood poles. These poles served as fencing poles for the early cattle farmers of South Africa in olden days. The poles used for the deck have been bought from farmers who have replaced them with modern metal poles. The sneeze wood trees are named after the reaction they cause when you start cutting and drilling the wood. The log cabin has its own private entrance, and can accommodate 2 guests. The cabin is surrounded by old trees and a lush garden, creating the feeling of living on a farm, with rabbits, rock hyrax, geese, and ducks living in the bushes close by. The log cabin is a romantic, special place for someone looking for something special. It will take you back in time a couple of decades. Bird watching on the property The property is ideal for bird watchers and bird photographers. The lush and dense vegetation and the hundred years old trees make it an ideal living and nesting spots for birds. Over 60 different species have been already identified by us. The pictures in the photo gallery show only some of the birds that can be viewed at the Artist's Escape. Bird feeders and bird baths are set up all over the property.

Guest access

Travelers will have the whole cabin available as well as a private outdoor space where barbecues can be made. Wood is freely available. There is a private entrance. The Artist's escape also offers the opportunity to be rented as a family unit...A fully furnished vintage caravan standing close by with private deck and roof can be rented as well. The caravan has a large King Size bed, fridge, water kettle and stove. Guests of the vintage Caravan " Wanderlust" will use the bathroom of the log cabin.
