Description
The Old Wash Kitchen is a charming cottage nestled in the heart of the peaceful and scenic village of Hinchliffe Mill, Holmfirth, a conservation area known for it's rich textile heritage. This historic Yorkshire stone cottage exudes charm and character with it's quaint architecture and cosy interior. Guests can immerse themselves in the ambiance of a traditional mill worker's dwelling while enjoying modern comforts. The cottage features an often described as 'amazing' view, an antique mahogany, hand-carved double bed, an Esse gas stove for cosy winter nights, free on-street parking right outside the door, and a small, stone-flagged, enclosed seating area outside for a relaxing morning cuppa or a well-deserved glass of wine after a day of exploring!
Situated beside the babbling river Holme, the cottage offers scenic views of rolling green hills and the tranquil old mill pond, creating a haven for wildlife. Numerous walking trails start right at the doorstep, with convenient fishing opportunities with a free permit for 2 at a nearby dam. Easy access to local and national transport links makes The Old Wash Kitchen an ideal base for exploring Holmfirth, and the for those wishing to venture further, the many picturesque villages and towns of Yorkshire and the Peak District. With 2 bedrooms, the cottage is perfect for a family break, a getaway with friends, or a spacious retreat for couples seeking a romantic escape or peaceful relaxation. The cottage also welcomes dogs, making it an excellent choice for pet owners looking to bring their furry companions along for a holiday adventure.
Guests staying at The Old Wash Kitchen adore the picturesque neighbourhood of Hinchliffe Mill for it's stunning countryside views and convenient amenities. The area's significance in television history, with filming locations from "Last of the Summer Wine" nearby, adds a nostalgic appeal. Two dog-friendly pubs, The Pickled Pheasant, a renowned gastro pub featuring it's new 'Munch cafe' by day and The Stumble Inn, a friendly local serving food and real ale are within walking distance and offer a taste of local hospitality, while the village shop provides convenience. A highlight is the proximity to Holmfirth Vineyard & Restaurant, just a 10-minute walk away, where guests can enjoy wine tasting and dining in a scenic vineyard setting with stunning views across the valley. A pleasant 20-minute stroll leads to Holmfirth centre, bustling with independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and The Picturedrome live music venue, all dotted amongst the quaint cobbled streets and historic architecture of the old woollen mill town. Outdoor enthusiasts appreciate easy access to the local countryside to enjoy walking and hiking from the door, the Peak District, cycling, and fishing adventures. The neighbourhood offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and local charm for a memorable Yorkshire getaway.
*PLEASE NOTE* *Although inside the bathroom is spacious and full height, the doorway is only 5 feet high and may be difficult to negotiate if less mobile/agile. *Our friendly neighbours leave the space outside the back door free for our guests, however as it's on a public road the space can't be guaranteed *As this is an underdwelling please expect to hear everyday living noises from the neighbours above and consideration with regards to noise must also given to them. *As we welcome dogs completely free of charge we do not expect to clean up after them so please only book if you are prepared to clean up after them. We appreciate your cooperation in this.

“Not dog friendly”
We had a lovely stay only to be ruined by the owners obsession with a few dog hairs even though I hoovered upstairs and down before we left. Having been advised to used the back/downstairs door for ac… More

Response from the owner We warmly welcome responsible dog owners to bring their dogs at no extra charge. In return, we kindly ask our guests to clean up after their dogs and to respect the agreed-upon dog boundaries outlined during booking. We are pleased that 99% of our guests adhere to these guidelines, ensuring a positive experience for everyone, including their dogs and ourselves. However, on rare occasions over our 6 years of hosting, we have had to deduct from the damage/housekeeping deposit due to specific incidents. In this case, stained and dog hair-embedded bed linen required replacement and deep cleaning of the bedrooms for subsequent guests' comfort. Additionally, a door mat covered in faecal matter, which had been turned over instead of cleaned or disposed of, necessitated replacement. Although minor, damage to a coaster highlighted a general disrespect for the property. In cases such as this, while guests have left positive reviews upon departure, we've unfortunately received negative online feedback after notifying them of the deduction from their deposit. We remain committed to providing a pleasant and respectful environment for all our guests and their furry friends.

“Fantastic accommodation”
What a lovely cottage. Fully equipped, with even more than expected. Very comfortable lounge, even had games and books available. Kitchen so well equipped, loved that 4 legged visitors are also thought of with feeding bowls and towels incase you forget to bring these. Main bedroom beautifully decorated in rich colours. Lovely pub a short drive or a 15/20 minute walk (dog likes to sniff everything). Stunning scenery. Beds very comfortable. Bathroom has a walk in shower and a bath - great to have both. Overall, an excellent stay.
