Comfortable, stylish, full of character and charm, this flat is situated within walking distance of local restaurants and shops. Fully equipped, this flat boasts open plan living, a large outdoor entertainment area with barbecue facilities under old trees and secure gated parking. It is the ideal space for a family or friends who want to enjoy nature and a private environment. Through its size the Hunters Cottage rather resembles a small holding. It has a large private bush garden for guests.

The space

This unique, characterful and spacious flat situated in the up market suburb of Bonnie Doon offers a truly African experience while still being close to the city center of East London, a beautiful coastal town surrounded by breath taking landscapes and beaches. The property is hidden by old trees and a lush garden creating the feeling of living on a farm. Bunnies, hyrax, rabbits, geese, monkeys and ducks are living in the bush close by.

The flat is situated in a quiet and secure area, not far from town center, the Vincent Mall and other shopping facilities and restaurants like Spar, Wimpy, a post office and a bottle store. Only a two minute drive to the famous Nahoon beach where lots of surfing competitions take place during the year.

The flat is lovingly decorated in an artistic, bohemian eclectic style furnished with antique and original retro furniture, with beautiful mosaic floors, that were done by the host throughout the flat and on the staircase leading down to the flat. It has a spacious bedroom, small toilet and a free standing antique ball and claw bath. The kitchen is fully furnished in retro style, with a large American vintage fridge, electric stove and a micro wave and everything else that is needed to cook a delicious meal. The Hunter's Cottage has as well a large sun room or undercover patio/verandah, serving as a separate entertainment and dining area with an original farmers/ wood stove. All the glass doors open to a wrap around deck that leads to another open air eating area in front of the kitchen. The sun room also serves a a second bedroom with two comfortable singe beds. The flat was build entirely from reclaimed and recycled materials and a lot of thought and love has gone into the construction. It is a space for people who are looking for something very different but still comfortable.

Guest access

The flat has its own separate entrance and is very private. A staircase leads down to the large deck with barbecue/braai facilities under old vegetation. So guests need to be able to climb stairs. There is secure parking inside a gated area in front of the garage. Internet connection available.

There are over sixty bird species including crested eagles and little bush bucks living in the surrounding nature. Ideal for bird watchers and nature photographers. The hosts have created a little pond just below the flat, that can be seen from the wrap around deck. It attracts a lot of bird life and small buck, that come to drink at the pond.

Interaction with guests

We are willing to assist our guests at any time if they need help or information. We can give recommendations for restaurants and day trips in the area. The are several nice game lodges and parks situated in the area in close distance. But we also offer costume tailored tours for small groups. Both

hosts love to fish and they can offer day fishing tours or deep sea fishing trips as well. We can offer delicious dinners on request served on the deck or undercover patio or in the Bamboo Bar which is part of the owners living area. But the flat is fully self sustained and fully equipped with everything our guests need to prepare their own meals.
