THE COTTAGE IS OPEN FROM EARLY MAY UNTIL COLUMBUS DAY WEEKEND EACH YEAR
Our spacious but cozy family cottage is located on a quiet shorefront road, just a few yards from the water with an uninterrupted view of Josiah's Cove and then across the sparkling sea 'all the way to Portugal.' It retains the charm of its 100-year history even though we've lovingly restored and equipped it with up-to-date appliances, numerous sky-lights, new mattresses and wireless internet service.
The cottage is perfectly suited for a quiet family holiday. It is not appropriate for large groups or noisy parties. Absolute maximum occupancy is 8.
We are sorry, but we cannot accommodate pets.
The top floor includes the master bedroom with water views, double bed, adjoining full bath with clawfoot tub, and a children's bedroom with two twin beds. The main level includes two double bedrooms with a half-bath between, along with the kitchen, dining room and living room.
A brick fireplace defines the cathedral-ceilinged living room. But most guests prefer sitting on the front porch to watch the sun rising at dawn, the lobster boats pulling their traps in the early morning, the sail boats passing all day long and the lights of the giant tankers twinkling in the distance at night.
There is a wonderful outdoor shower at the back of the house.
Peaks Island is a safe and quiet family paradise offering beaches, tennis courts, kayaking, fishing (including from the rocks in front of the cottage) and great walking and bike-riding. Bikes and kayaks are available for rent. And it's all just a 20-minute car ferry ride from the shopping, excellent restaurants, movies and first-class art museum of Portland.
The cottage is normally open from Memorial Day through Columbus Day. Please inquire about early May and late October.

I know you were just joking about the dirt road, but we'd like to assure anyone looking at the cottage that all the neighbors are very nice, even those with cottages in the woods! We regularly get together with them for drinks or coffee when we are on the island ourselves. And we do have an indoor tub in addition to the outdoor shower that everyone loves.
