Description

I designed this home taking into consideration the true south direction, the angle of the roof (pagoda style) for the benefits of passive solar heating in the winter and cooling effects in the summer and the windows for natural ventilation and 360-degree views. It was built after in-depth research, with loving care and value of workmanship, assisted by skilled craftsmen and myself to create a sanctuary for man and beast alike. Stones from the fence rows handpicked for the mosaic look of the 10-foot high hearth, cedar, and pine from the forest for the board/baton siding of the house and barn and cedar rails for the fences. The fields and forested areas have not been sprayed with any chemicals in more than 15 years, similarly, there are no properties near Phoenix Farm that are not organic in nature. The 1545 sq.ft. home is heated by one very efficient Pacific Energy woodstove upstairs, and downstairs a very large sized Drolet woodstove. As well, there is a propane furnace if nights get very chilly upstairs. The water heater and stove are powered by propane. There is a laptop computer here for your use with WIFI accessibility on the property. Closet space and pantry space for your ease of operation during your stay together with grocery stores being only 5 minutes away, allows you to spend more time relaxing and winding down on your vacation.

The water from the tap is better than bottled water in that it was tested in Toronto and proved to be free from iron, sulphur and calcium. Friends and family bring containers to the farm to carry away the pure water.

Phoenix farm is located a short five minute drive (1.5 km.) to the quaint town of Durham, Ontario (2 hours northwest of Toronto or less than 90 minutes north of Guelph). We have all facilities and many conveniences here, including a natural food store/café known as Chicory Common, other small family restaurants, the Garafraxa live entertainment bar/café, used book store, florists, Durham fitness centre with state of the art exercise equipment, thrift/antique stores, banks, credit union, video store, liquor/beer store, library, pharmacy, gas stations, two convenience stores, vet clinics, an excellent medical centre, the Durham Hospital, West Grey municipal police service, OPP (which services my municipality known as Southgate) and a Food

Interaction with guest

You can expect assistance from your hostess to allow you to get settled quickly and be familiarized with places to visit, the amenities in town and my suggestions to ensure your security and privacy during your stay at Phoenix Farm. You will see the list of activities and sights in West Grey township below. You will be provided with two sets of keys during your stay which must be returned or $50 of your security deposit will be forfeited. Similarly there will be a $300 security (damage) deposit, payable at the same time as your 50% deposit on your vacation rental. Your security damage deposit will be refunded on the last day of your stay. Cancellation rules apply. Please read Flipkey's booking and cancellation rules.
