Description

For a truly once-in-a-lifetime vacation, consider staying at this incredible farm on the island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua. Wake up each morning to fresh-laid eggs and delicious goat cheese, handmade right on site, and spend your days exploring the island's lush tropical forests, relaxing in your rustic accommodations, and admiring views of the lake from your perch on the side of Maderas Volcano.

The farm sits outside the community of Balgue on the slopes of the island's southern volcano. Hiking trails lead up to the volcano's summit. The town of Altagracia, which features a charming museum, is less than 10 miles away, and there are numerous places along the coast to rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, perfect for vacationers who want to spend some time on the water.

Finca Ometepe includes three separate vacation rentals: a main house, a charming cabin, and a converted bus. There are five bedrooms total between the three rentals.

In the main house, you'll find two bedrooms, a large living room, and a beautiful open kitchen. Admire views of the lake from the wraparound deck, or relax on the custom furniture while you use the free WiFi to share pictures of your adventures with friends and loved ones. The main home also has a private washer/dryer, so regardless of how long you're staying, feel free to pack light!

The bus sits under a cabana, where you'll find an open-air kitchen with a stove, a fridge, and other small appliances. Inside of the bus, there's a full bed, a seating area, and a full bathroom.

In addition to goats and chickens, there are a dog and a cat that live on the property.

Getting around

The farm is situated high up on a hill, so it is great to have a car, motorcycle, or quad to get around. There are also many taxis available, and we can help you get shuttles anywhere you want to go. We have bicycles at the farm, and you can easily walk to the small village nearby, Balgue, to get a delicious meal at a local restaurant. Our farm hands can direct you to their favorites :)

Interaction with guest

Our farm manager, Josue, and his wife Emily live on the farm in a separate house, and there is always someone on the property with you. Both are learning English, and love to share our farm with visitors. Hanna, the owner, and her husband, Hakan, frequently visit as well. Hanna speaks English, Spanish, Swedish, and some French and is usually available by phone. Hakan is fluent in Swedish and English.
