Description
River Meadow Cottage is on the low banks of the Grand River and is tucked into a corner lot where you can stay in your bathing suit all day and basks in the sun from sunrise to sunset.
The tide is out most of the day and evening and young children can splash around in bathtub warm water chasing minnows and hermit crabs and never get deeper than up to their knees. The only time that the tide is high enough for adults to swim is in the morning.
There is a shaded patio facing the water at the front of the cottage, There are lounge chairs and this quiet spot offers a lovely place to read, watch the shore birds or enjoy the sunset.
Under giant birches, the motor bus part of the cottage has been built out to add on a bedroom, a front lounging room with an additional single bed where you can relax and watch tv in the evenings. The bus kitchen is fully stocked and has an electric stove, dishwasher, fridge, a dinette booth, a day bed and a half bath.
This camp cottage is not fancy (no granite or steel for those who need modern and sleek), but it has everything a young family or a group of friends need for comfort and convenience with the added pleasure of being immersed in the sights and sounds of nature.
There is a wonderful large firepit surrounded by lounge chairs,
Sleeping areas:
1. Bedroom with a queen size bed.
2. The front room has a couch and chair for TV watching and a single bed for tv watching and sleeping.
3. There is another single bed up in the bus\kitchen and there is a sliding door to close this area off at night.
4. Behind the cottage, there is a small cabin with a washer and dryer and a full bath with a shower, sink, and toilet. There is a set of bunk beds in this small cabin where teens or young adults can sleep. This is not suitable for children under 14 as they will be scared at night.
This cottage may not offer the space for multi-generational families or privacy needed for more than one couple or for the privacy most teenagers expect unless they are staying out in the back cabin where there is a full bathroom and a set of bunk beds.
There is a Samsung Smart TV with Samsung Cable and Bell Satellite service for WiFi and Amazon Prime streaming.
The bus kitchen has a ceiling height of 6ft. If you are taller than 5ft 9 in and you are the chief cook and bottle washer, you may not be comfortable in this space.
Also, if you are a senior and have limited bending capacity you may not be comfortable sleeping up in the bus and exiting the low door at the back of the bus to go to the bathroom at night,
Nature lovers will appreciate the song birds, shore birds, hawks and eagles.
Everyone will enjoy exploring the beach whether it is shelling, swimming, building sandcastles or taking long walks and if you don't want to walk far, take out one of the two canoes and explore the shoreline.
River Meadow Cottage offers you the closeness to nature found in a campground but it also has the comfort, convenience and privacy of a cottage.

House rules
All music that can be heard while outside must be turned off at 10:00pm. Sound echos off the small bay and even low music can be noisy to people across the bay who are trying to get to sleep with their windows open.
All traffic must arrive and depart in a quiet manner after dark.
All cars exiting Alexander Lane at any time of the day must come to a full stop and ease out onto Mellow Lane; you cannot see other cars coming down Mellow Lane because of the hedge line.

Response from the owner Hello there: I am so sorry you and your guests had such a difficult time at the cottage. Our family was not fortunate enough to have any ‘tallness’ to limit our movement in the bus, but now I stress that anyone over 5’10” who wishes to rent this cottage will be vertically challenged when they are in the bus area. I have put in all new screens, replaced problem windows and added more weather-stripping to the front door. As for the seaweed, a big storm takes it in, and the next big storm takes it out. We have built a boardwalk out the water so that one does not have to walk on the seaweed. I will be taking a scientific approach to insect control for the upcoming year of 2021. Because of your fair and accurate review, I have had no booking or inquiries from this site in 2020 so I thought that I would add some guest reviews from other travel sites and their 2019 reviews. One note - the bus part of the cottage has fairly low ceilings, so it worked well for us because we're rather short, but wouldn't be as comfortable for taller individuals. Also, there's a bunky on the property, with a bunk bed, another bathroom and a shower, but we just used the main cottage. Lovely stay and one we'd definitely come back to for the views/privacy alone!
