Birdsong cottage is located deep behind the 114 W. West St main house and accessed through a side garden gate and path. It is completely private.

The cottage is ideally situated in the heart of historic Southport - a short walking distance to all of the quaint antique stores, chic boutiques, and laid-back riverfront seafood restaurants and bars. Spike's ice-cream stand is one block away and the 5 star Mr. P's Bistro is around the corner!

Interaction with guest

Robert and I will be there to welcome you to the cottage and walk you through. Then, you are on your own! There is a welcome book on the breakfast bar with our recommendations for places to eat and things to do. We are happy to assist with any special needs, make reservations, etc., but also we are happy to leave you to your private vacation. You will probably not see or hear much of us. There are no windows in the back of our house facing the backyard and the cottage. We keep the blinds drawn on the side of the house where the cottage path runs, to also heighten guest's privacy. There is a parking spot directly in front of the cottage gate on the street that we keep reserved for guests.

We have considered switching up to Cable, but have found that a lot of people have HULU, Netflix, Amazon and they don't watch a lot of TV during their vacation weekends. Not sure about the King bed. We may remove the armoire and replace with a smaller dresser. We do have a second bedside table coming. The bench at the foot of the bed can be moved into the living room to serve as an Ottoman if desired. I will point that out to the next guests! Thanks for the suggestions, and I am so glad you are planning to return. Oh...and thanks for sending that other couple from New York to us!

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

If Katherine (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
