Getting around

Whilst some bus services do pass through the village the surrounding area is much better enjoyed if guests have their own transport. There are lots of lovely footpaths though and also excellent bike riding countryside.

Interaction with guest

We have a coded lock box which guests use to pick up their keys as this gives them greater flexibility. However, if I am here when you arrive and you wish, I am of course, delighted to welcome our guests and show them up to the cottage. If guests want additional local information I am very happy to provide it; there is also a file of information in the cottage.

“Loved the cottage”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2021

I booked this for my boyfriend’s 20th birthday and we had the best week. The cottage was so lovely and cozy and Kate was really nice and welcoming. We didn’t want to leave at the end of our week! We went on a couple walks through the village and the views are amazing, we also went into Royston town for a day and had an amazing breakfast at a cafe. Would definitely recommend and I’m sure we’ll be back. :)

“A lovely comfy stay located in a beautiful village”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2021

My husband and I had a lovely long weekend stay at this lovely cottage in Barley. Kate was responsive and helpful in advance of our stay and provided a warm welcome on arrival. The folder of information provided was both interesting and helpful. The cottage is in the garden of the owners, we felt comfortable our whole stay, Kate was friendly and helpful, but not at all intrusive. The cottage is beautifully kept and has everything you need to stay and self-cater or eat out. There are 2 pubs with fabulous food within easy walking distance. We were able to relax comfortably and really enjoyed our stay.

“Staycation perfection”

Reviewed 9 Aug 2021

Stayed with my wife and toddler. The accomodation is perfectly sized for 2 and a small one. The kitchen is great for cooking with everything you need, often with holiday rentals you worry about not having the right utensils, here there is more than you need e.g. 3 casserole dishes of different sizes. We live in London so although great for getting there we were much more interested in attractions a bit closer. We went to a farm, wildlife park, Cambridge botanic gardens and a play barn all great for our son. Kate was a wonderful host and provided a cot and high chair. The village is very traditional English countryside, with a small local shop and a couple of great pubs, the fox and hounds was particularly great. We had a wonderful time and would recommend for anyone looking to escape to the English countryside whilst still being near enough to major cities.

Response from the owner Thank you for your kind and enthusiastic words, we are so pleased that you both enjoyed your stay with us. We aim to make everyone's visit wonderful and to provide comfort in lovely surroundings - so it seems we have done exactly that! I agree about the photos, it's so hard to capture the spaciousness of the cottage in them (lack of technical ability on my behalf possibly!) On arrival most guests are surprised by how big it is. We do hope to see you both again. Kate
