“three week stay with a young family of five, first time to Fiji” Traveled with 3 kids (2, 4, & 6). Service was excellent, esp Kerry before we left. The caretaker, Ramesh, was helpful with his local knowledge. He baby-sat a few times refusing payment, cooked a lovo dinner outside our back door, bought meat from the Nadi butcher etc. He lives 2 minutes away. The property was great, kids in one room parents in the other, 2 bathrooms. Large living area ideal for a long visit, fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher & laundry. Never ran out of hot water. After each day our tired kids watched a movie as we admired the view & cooked dinner. A car is essential. With baby seat our wagon cost $FJ 93/day. Sigatoka is a 30 min drive, beautiful Natadola Beach 1 hr, Pacific Harbor 1 hr. Petrol stations are cash only (outside major shops/supermarkets, it's a cash economy). Driving is safe but watch for roaming animals & speed cameras! Sigatoka now has a supermarket comparable to Nadi. Cooking was easier for adults.. a farmer selling spices at Sigatoka market gave us amazing dahl & curry recipes. Meal options were more boring for our kids but they coped & loved the pineapples, bananas. All up, Totoka Kalou was excellent for what we wanted to do. Here's what we got up to: First week we drove/walked down to Maui Bay to swim in the pool, snorkel, horse ride & climb fallen coconut trees. Kids loved the jetty, watching fish. 2nd week we ventured afield & went to resorts. Only the Outrigger didn't let us in. Our kids preferred Naviti, we the Warwick (snorkeling). Resorts were free to enter but on our last day Warwick said we should be paying $20/day each, maybe because school holidays had started? Third week was the most fun. We picked up hitchhikers, were invited into their villages to play rugby, kids visited a school. We met a village chief & had our best meal in Fiji cooked by his wife in their house! Take root kava when you are invited anywhere. A horse ride to the waterfall & 3-hr dinner conversation with the Eco Cafe owner were highlights

“Second Stay...still perfect!” This was our second stay at this wonderful hide away. Everything was again, just perfect. The children had a great time, we were spoilt by the staff and Patrick the owner. He went out of his way to ensure our stay was as perfect as the first. This is the only place to stay in Fiji. Private, great value for money and nothing was too much trouble. We have booked again for our third stay next year.....can't wait!

Beautiful self contained accommodation

our party included a man in a wheelchair, the house is not only spacious and cleverly designed, it is also wheelchair accessible. The views are priceless, the fresh breeze delightful. Ramesh met us and had curry for our arrival, the rest of the time we self catered with the delectable fresh fruit and veg from Sigatoka. The lagoon is great for swimming and snorkeling, the locals are friendly and helpful. Best to have a car, as most destinations are some distance away. We spent lots of time wandering along the beach or exploring the local townships. Everything you need is in the kitchen and the DVD collection is good for winding down in the evenings.see more

Wonderful alternative to resorts

Stayed here for 10 days in May. 4 adults and 3 children (2 x 3yrs, 1 x 18 mths). Fantastic idea and great with kids. Have complete privacy with own beach & pool. Fantastic snorkelling. Great baby sitters and Pinky made amazing meals every dinner and breakfast. Go as slow as you want or do as much as you want. Wonderful local experience too, especially for kids. So nice not to have to share our pool and beach with any other guests, like what happens in resorts, yet all the comforts of a resort combined with all the space of home. Far better option if travelling with multiple families. Love to come back in the future. Tip- if you are travelling around a lot to see local attractions or other resort visits and the supermarket, use the local bus. Taxi is excellent too, but can work out expensive if you are heading out often. Also a good massage in the local village in the northern waterfront corner of Naviti resort. Kids also loved the beach front horse riding and the horses are very calm and not too big. Highly recommend Pinky cooking you a fully decked out Indian feast- yummy. Stay here, you won't regret it. I have stayed in over 15 different Fijian mainland and outer island resorts over the last 30 years and this has to be at the top of the list. Bear in mind that the two front bures are separate to the house, but very close (within a couple of mtrs). Pictures here represent the house perfectly. We bought a bag full of new toys for the kids to play with and then donated them to the local Kindergarten opposite the nearby souvenir store when we headed back to the airport. If you are going to be buying your own groceries to cook or have cooked, I'd recommend bringing one of those soft cooler bags to put any frozen goods in as it's so warm that they will melt on the drive back from town. The supermarket in Sigatoka has everything you need including well known baby items and snacks. Thanks Patrick!see more
