Description from owner

Description

Ysyhia is modern, bright and airy. It has a private pool that is the perfect size for flopping about in.

The kitchen is well-equipped without being full of clutter and you will likely be offered fresh eggs or vegetables from our garden depending upon availability.

It is far enough from civilisation to be astonishingly quiet and restful yet close enough to be convenient for shops, beaches and eating out. And of course the view is stunning, with no light pollution, the night sky is bursting with stars. No other buildings can be seen from the cottage and none overlook it. Our house is up the hill from the cottage on the same 1½ acre plot. Each house has its own private access and a fence separates the “farm” from the cottage and its garden. A grove of olive and almond trees provide each house with total privacy from one another but we are on hand should you want help or advice.

The cottage is located on a dirt road and has a steep but short concrete driveway leading up to the door. We will book an appropriate car for you locally where you will receive the best service.

The bedroom has air conditioning, a standard double bed, two bedside units with reading lights and two wardrobes with interchangeable shelves to accommodate full length hanging when required. French doors open out to the shaded pergola and a view straight out from the bed to the sea.

The bathroom has a pebble floor with open-plan shower, a washbasin set into a natural marble surface and a toilet you can flush paper down.

There is also a washing machine, iron and ironing board in the lobby between the bathroom and the living room.

The kitchen is part of the main living room and is equipped with; fridge-freezer, combi-microwave oven, ceramic hob and twin sinks. Cupboard units above and below the granite worksurface, kettle, toaster and juice extractor.

The living room has dining table and chairs, internet access, built-in sofas, CD and DVD player. We also provide a local mobile phone for use during your stay.

Ysyhia has its own small private pool with sun-lounging area plus a barbecue and a shaded pergola for outdoor dining.

The cottage is cleaned and the linen changed prior to your arrival. We provide bathroom, pool and beach towels. Fresh towels and bed linen are provided weekly.

The property is unsuitable for children. There is really good water pressure in the shower etc. and you can flush loo paper down the toilet, you don't have to put it in a bin beside the loo.

We recommend that you rent a car and we can help you to arrange this. The cottage is priced per night in Euros. We offer 14 nights for the price of 13 because one week is never enough to enjoy the island as much as you would like to.

We take a 25% deposit to secure your booking, the balance becomes due 4 weeks prior to your arrival.

Getting around

Ysyhia's remote location means that there is no public transport to hand. There is a bus the other side of Glossa village and it will take about 45 minutes to reach the bus stop from the cottage on foot. Alternatively you can take taxis but we strongly recommend a rental car and we are very happy to book this for you.

Interaction with guest

At the start of the season we will reserve a car for you at our local car rental firm who will be able to provide you with the best service locally. In the few weeks before your arrival we will be in touch to find out your flight details and to advise you of the most appropriate sailings. When you arrive at the Port of Glossa we will be there waiting with your rental car to show you the way to the cottage and we will call in at a supermarket and a bakery on the way. At the cottage there is a local guide book which we update every year as well as a selection of local maps. We’re more than willing to help with suggestions about places to go and things to do, the best places to eat and drink and where you can buy anything you weren't able to f

“Idyllic spot for a complete 'get away from it all' break”

“A slice of Greek heaven”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2020

We have just returned from two idyllic weeks at this superb cottage, thrilled that we have found somewhere we can return to again and again to relax and enjoy the very best of Greece. The peaceful, private location, stunning, uninterrupted views across the sea, beautiful pool and attention to detail, inside and out, combine to create the perfect 'get away from it all' retreat for two. The setting of the cottage was so perfect that we often simply relaxed around the pool watching the rhythm of the day pass across the Aegean. Soft sunshine on the patio at breakfast time, cool corners of the garden giving dappled shade at midday and evening meals watching the sky tinge pink with beautiful sunsets - why go anywhere else? The villa was very well equipped with all we could possibly need, tastefully designed and comfortable, creating a beautiful home from home for our two week stay. We appreciated the lovely details of Greek themed books and dvd's, maps, guides, binoculars and the extensive games cupboard! We travelled to Skopelos during the uncertain times of Covid19 and were impressed with all of the procedures put in place on the island and the cottage itself to keep us all safe and well. This was really reassuring and much appreciated. It was often hard to tear ourselves away from all the cottage had to offer, but when we did we found the island full of delights. Green slopes cascading down into the sea, white rocks, turquoise waters, beautiful vistas, secluded, quiet beaches and amazing 'balcony' villages with their narrow passages and maze of steps. We discovered beautiful, remote hilltop monasteries, Roman remains and several glorious walking trails. We arrived at Agios Ioannis ( of Mamma Mia fame) at 8 in the morning and had the whole place to ourselves for an hour. An amazing spot. The cottage itself is in a beautiful, remote spot but only a 10 minute drive from the village of Glossa and the port of Loutraki for supplies, bakery, butchers, cafes and good restaurants. Our host, Matthew, was superb, passing on a host of local advice and recommendations. He was attentive, so friendly, ever helpful and available whist ensuring our privacy too. We really appreciated his though and kindness in sharing his home grown produce and his concern for us during a storm. We couldn't have asked for a better host. This was an absolutely perfect holiday retreat which we would not hesitate to recommend (although a part of us want to keep this gem to ourselves!)We have come away with abiding memory of bats swooping over the pool at dusk, watching the boats sail across the far mists of the Aegean, great food, good wine and local beer, amazing island discoveries and a real sense of peace and restfulness. And yes, we have already booked for next year!

Response from the owner What a review! I can't thank you enough. Whilst the revenue from the cottage rental is always appreciated, the enjoyment and satisfaction of guests is paramount for me. It is so rewarding to see happy faces staying here. I look forward to seeing you next year and in the meantime, bearing in mind the pandemic, stay safe and healthy. All the best, Matt
