Cooperstown House Rental - Waterfront Location

Cooperstown house

  • 3 bedrooms
  • 2 bathrooms
  • sleeps 8

“A great get away weekend” My family visited Cooperstown in Oct. of 2009 and stayed in this wonderful house. The location was great: it wasn't too far of a drive into downtown Cooperstown and all the attractions but far enough out of town to enjoy the peacefulness of the surrounding area. This property was well kept and has water access to the beautiful lake just across the street. The views of the lake and the surrounding woods can be seen from almost every room of the house; I especially loved the rooms in the front of the house which were all windows and you could enjoy the amazing views while eating meals. This house contained an amazing kitchen (newly renovated it seemed) and bathrooms while keeping with the charm and style of the area and surrounding houses. My family and I really enjoyed our stay here and look forward to returning soon hopefully.

“Highly recommend for great food, lodging, live music, and best of” There is a small group of ladies, three of us, who like to travel for wine tastings. We found a hotel in Richfeild Springs on a lake from trip advisor reviews, close to Cooperstown where our wine tasting was going on. When we returned to the Lake House that evening we sat by a fireplace in the living room and the door was open to the second floor and could hear clearly three men talking about a battle of the Potomac. Then they talked about Pickett's charge and on the 4th of July of '63 a train 14 miles long with Lee's wounded. We did notice an accent when they spoke but could not place it. The interesting part of this review came after our return home. It appears the Hotel is haunted (I am not one to believe in ghosts) but when we told our husbands about these three men talking about General Meade and Pickett's charge etc. and how many of their friends were lost ,They Looked at Bruce who teaches history and in disbelieve, informed us this was later known as the Battle of Gettysburg and ended on July 4th of 1863. This was 146 years ago to the day we were sitting there listening to these civil war veterans and 20 years to the day that the Lake House opened in 1843. Now all six of us will defintely be returning next july 4th to the Lake House for the Ghosts and great conversation.

About Cooperstown

Opened in 1939, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum remains the premier attraction in Cooperstown. The village was established by William Cooper in 1786, and it’s even rumored that baseball was invented here, on a cow pasture in 1839 by Abner Doubleday. The village center is home to the Cooperstown Historic District, with many buildings dating back to pre-1900. The district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Dining out in Cooperstown starts by the lake, with a variety of restaurants offering fantastic, fresh surf and turf with stunning views (especially at sunset). There are plenty of family-friendly spots for dining too, as well as cafés and fine dining restaurants focused on locally sourced, organic produce.

What to do

Start your vacation by exploring the Baseball Hall of Fame with its interactive exhibits—visit the Plaque Gallery to see the 317 plaques dedicated to the Hall of Fame members. You could easily spend most of your day here, but make sure you also check out the Farmers Museum for an insight into village life around 1845. This living history museum has plenty of hands-on activities for families. Also worth visiting is the Fenimore Art Museum with its collection of American Indian and folk art.

Enjoy the great outdoors and go hiking, biking, fishing or golfing. Relax on the beach or rent a canoe or kayak and cruise down the Susquehanna River or Goodyear Lake. Or sample local beverages with a free guided tour of Brewery Ommegang or Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard.
