“The cabin was nice and the setting was beautiful and tranquil.” If you want to spend some time in the country but have nice conveniences like a hot tub, TV, grill, all the stuff you need in the house, this is a great choice. The views of the Ohio River are memorable - the wild life (humming birds, hawks, rabbits, etc.) is plentiful. The cabins are really nice and offer lots of light and views. This is a perfect place to unplug and unwind!

“A peaceful place to stay” The cabin was a great place to have as our base camp while exploring the area. Even with the rain, we were able to enjoy the hot tub & sit out on the deck. All we did was bring some food & everything else was available at the cabin. The scenery was beautiful!

“Our stay here was wonderful!” Our stay here was wonderful! The cabin is perfectly located, walking distance from the lake. The kitchen is well stocked and the cabin feels very cozy. The owners kept in touch throughout, even responded to our silly questions within minutes! The only down-side was that the second bathroom was difficult to get to, since in order to get to the basement you have to go outside (not something you want to do on a winter evening), and one of the bedrooms only had access through another bedroom (compromising privacy). There was more than ample space (huge living room) and plenty of bedrooms. We will definitely be coming back!

“Very Enjoyable!!!” This cabin was everything we needed and more. This was mine and my husband's first time away since we had children. This was so enjoyable, the cabin was perfect. We actually plan on coming back and bringing our children. It is so quiet we could hear the leaves fall. The owner was so helpful and very nice. I will for sure be back soon.

“Great cabin” What a great experience staying at the cabin. The cabin was well set up and very original. Fantastic secluded spot yet close for access to the blue ridge parkway. “Wonderful!” We stayed in the Heron's Nest for a family reunion. It was a wonderful! Both the reunion and the cabin and the stay. Being on the river was a different experience for me as I'm used to lakes and beaches. But it was superlative! The morning mists cloaked the river in a blanket of fog from which trees, water, and the occassional barge emerged slowly over the early morning. The chimes played a quiet background vibrant hum that was quite appropriate. I sat out on the deck and watched the mists rise and dissipate then watched the sunlight play as sparkling diamonds over the water. It was wonderful and I did some writing in this wonderful environment. I plan to come back just for myself in the future. I wouldn't have left but I had to come back to the big city for my job. The cabin is multi-storied and big. Each of us, singly or as a mini-group, had our own level and plenty of room. Bug and Michelle and the rest of the staff are very warm and wonderful people and made us feel like family. The area abounds in so many things to do! Some days we just stayed in and grilled and enjoyed being there. Others we went out hiking, caving, and exploring. We definately all want to come back again next year! We had a wonderful time and now have wonderful memories! I would highly recommend these cabins and the Heron's Nest in particular. It's nicely situated on the river to watch the river and the small amount of river traffic (which are actually very nice to watch). And has a nice hot tub, campfire area, dock, etc. It's in nicely quietly remote yet not too far from a lot of fun things to do. Five stars! - Grant

“A wonderful time with all if iur siblings in a beautiful setting” Our family was looking for a get-away for a long weekend, to spend together and enjoy each others company. We've list a brother and sister and wanted to just celebrate our family. The Roost was a perfect setting for that. We walked, played games around the dining room table, cookedesla together and listened to music all weekend. It was our "Big Chill" weekend. It was just what we had hoped for. Lots of room for all. Very comfortable furnishings all around. Beautifully decorated.

“The perfect place to rest and renew...” We spent four days at this beautiful cabin with its breathtaking view of the Stanislaus River. We had coffee in the morning and watched the river cascade down the canyon. We had lunch on the deck and watched the river...The river lolled us to sleep at night. The accomodations were wonderful, comfortable, well-maintained. We were joined by our daughter and her family for two nights and the loft suited their needs. We have already made plans to return again.

“What a great, relaxing and fun time!” We had the best time, the view was great and the cabin was spectacular. We never met a stranger in Derby, everyone was so friendly and down home--our kind of people. “Perfect” Great place to get away from it all. Put our kayaks in the river right at the cabin, good fishing, plenty of places to ride dual sport motorcycles in the area, paved and unpaved.
