Red Oak Historic Cottage

This lovely historic home was built in 1902 when the Rich Lumber Company built a mill town in this charming hamlet. This cottage was originally a mill worker boarding house, then later converted into a family owned home purchased by John T. Olsen from Sweden. The cottage is made out of original hemlock and has two bedrooms, one bath with a claw foot tub/shower, a cozy family room with a wood pellet stove, a morning room, a large enclosed porch, full kitchen, breakfast bar and dining area. The town of Wanakena has a public beach area for swimming in the Oswegatchie river. The river feeds into Cranberry lake which is know for its fishing. You will find the Wanakena General Store a block down the street with many staples and a fun visit anyway. The town has a self guided historical tour that is a must. There is a public tennis court and basketball hoop at the town playground area. There are several hiking trails walking distance from the cottage. Also, the Presbyterian Church is a few houses down the street!
